Strategy for livestock development until 2045

The Prime Minister has just issued Document No. 1520 / QD-TTg Decision approving the livestock development strategy for the period 2021-2030, vision 2045.

The goal of the above strategy to 2030, domestic livestock production belongs to the group of advanced countries in the region. Specifically, the growth rate of production value in the period 2021-2025 reaches 4-5% /year on average; in the 2026-2030 period, reaches an average of 3- 4% /year. By 2030, the total number of pigs in the country will reach 29-30 million heads, traditional and industrial farming will account for 70%. Total chickens reach 500-550 million units, about 60% of industrial farming. In the livestock development strategy, other animals are also oriented such as waterfowl, cattle, goats, sheep, and aquatic products.

The output of carcass of all kinds by 2025 will reach from 5 to 5.5 million tons; by 2030, reaching 6 - 6.5 million tons. In which, exporting products are 15-20% of pork production, 20-25% of poultry meat and eggs. The output of eggs and milk by 2025 will reach 18-19 billion eggs and from 1.7 to 1.8 million tons of milk; by 2030, reaching about 23 billion eggs and 2.6 million tons of milk. Proportions of cattle and poultry are massively slaughtered in the industry, respectively, about 60% and 40% in 2025, around 70% and 50% by 2030. Proportion of processed meat and poultry compared with total meat production will be 25-30% in 2025, 40-50% in 2030.

By 2045, the livestock industry is a modern technical and economic industry and is industrialized in almost all stages from production to processing and preservation in order to connect markets for product consumption. Production qualifications and capacity are among the top in Southeast Asia. Most livestock products, including meat, eggs, and milk, are produced in biosecure and environmentally friendly farms; 100% of commodity cattle and poultry meat products are supplied from centralized, industrial slaughters...

The decision also provides synchronous solutions to develop the livestock industry in the coming period from land policy; financial and credit policy; commercial policies; agricultural extension and propaganda; capacity building for disease prevention and fighting and the environment; improving productivity and quality of livestock; improve quality, lower prices of animal feed; development of supporting industries for the livestock industry; strengthen the State management capacity in the livestock sector, veterinary medicine ...

The strategy to develop the livestock industry in the new period is based on the viewpoint of promoting the potentials and advantages of ecological zones for comprehensive, efficient, sustainable and climate change adaptation associated with value chains development. Thereby, increase added value, ensuring bio-safety, anti-epidemics, environment and food safety to meet the domestic market and increase exports. To develop the livestock industry in the direction of industrialization and modernization, while promoting organic and traditional husbandry towards the production of safe and high quality goods.

Dong Nai is the livestock capital of the country with the total number of pigs and chickens in the top of the country. Before the livestock development strategy for the period 2021-2030, vision 2045 of the Prime Minister, the People's Committee of Dong Nai province also issued a list of key agricultural products at the provincial level for the period 2020-2025. The list includes 24 main crops and 5 livestock products, including terrestrial livestock products with pigs and chickens; Aquatic products include white shrimp, crayfish, and fish.
