Anticipation for Long Giao Town

The Provincial People’s Committee recently submitted a project document to establish Long Giao Town (Cam My District) to the Ministry of Home Affairs and the National Assembly’s Standing Committee for consideration and approval.

The approval of establishment of Long Giao town is not only suitable with minds of local people, in accordance with Cam My district’s development planning, but also meets the standard that each district administrative unit must have at least one town.

Approval of Town Establishment Policy

At the recent 17th Meeting of the Provincial People’s Council, after comparing with the provisions in Article 9 of Resolution No. 1211/2016 / UBTVQH13 dated May 25, 2016 of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee (Regulations on administrative standards and administrative unit classification),  the Provincial People’s Council has decided to approve the policy of establishing Long Giao town on the basis of keeping the natural area and population of Long Giao commune.

In terms of natural area, Long Giao town has 33.75 km2; population of more than 10.5 thousand people, headquarters in Long Giao commune exists. Regarding the administrative boundaries, the East borders Bao Binh and Xuan My communes, the West borders Xuan Duong and Xuan Que communes, the South borders Xuan My and Cu Bi communes (Chau Duc District, Ba Ria - Vung Tau Province), the North borders Xuan Que commune and Nhan Nghia commune.

According to Chairman of Cam My District People’s Committee Huynh Tan Thin, in recent years, the economy of Long Giao commune has had a fairly stable growth step, ensuring the necessary criteria of a town. Specifically, by 2020, the estimated total production value reached VND 1.2 trillion, economic growth rate reached about 16%, average income per capita reached nearly VND 60 million per year; Budget collection is always guaranteed and exceeded the set plan; The economic structure has shifted positively with the proportion of agriculture - forestry - fishery sector about 24%, handicraft industry about 33%, and the rest is service sector. Also in this commune, there are Long Giao Industrial Processing Cluster and Center of Biotechnology, with the expectation that in the future, it will attract domestic and foreign enterprises to invest in operations.

Besides economic development, the socio-cultural fields have also gradually changed positively. In the commune, there are 4/4 schools meeting national standards; Health facilities are entitled to invest in upgrading material foundations and equipment to well perform the initial medical examination and treatment for the people; The people's cultural and spiritual life has been raised day by day; The movement of all people unite to build a new countryside and a civilized city step by step goes into depth. Currently, the whole commune has 99.6% of households gaining the title of 'Cultural Family' and 100% of hamlets maintaining the title of 'Cultural Hamlet', along with 100% of agencies meeting cultural standards.

Along with socio-economic development, infrastructure of Long Giao has been gradually upgraded. Currently, the main traffic network of this commune includes the routes: Highway 56, District Road 10, Hoan Quan - Xuan My, Long Giao - Bao Binh which are seamlessly connected with other internal and external communes, meeting the needs of travel, passenger and cargo transportation.

Towards a Modern Industrial City

According to the development plan, Long Giao town will become an important traffic hub of the province, located in the economic triangle of Long Khanh - Long Thanh and Ba Ria - Vung Tau province, while being the district capital of Cam My. Long Giao urban area plays an important role in trade with Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Binh Thuan provinces and is the vicinity of Long Thanh international airport. Long Giao town will be developed in the direction of urbanization, industrialization and modernization.

In the coming time, this urban will be given priority to the development of urban and technical infrastructure projects to create a driving force for socio-economic development; to develop industrial clusters and restructure the economy in the direction of increasing the proportion of industry - construction and trade - services, and reducing agriculture. Since then, there will be a redistribution of labor among occupations and regions in the whole district and gradually improve the quality of life for the people.

Mr. Nguyen Quang Huy (Suoi Ca hamlet) expressed his wish that after being approved to become a town, technical and social infrastructure works such as roads, schools, construction planning, especially clean water for domestic use, will be upgraded according to urban criteria so that people will no longer suffer from water shortages when the dry season comes.

Also, Mr. Truong Van Ha (Suoi Ca hamlet) said, to “catch up” the opportunity that the Ministry of Home Affairs and the National Assembly’s Standing Committee approve Long Giao as a town, Long Giao Industrial Cluster, Cam My Industrial Park, and his mechanical business have expanded and received many local workers for apprenticeship. Mr. Ha hopes that when the project of upgrading to Long Giao town is approved, technical infrastructure projects such as houses, schools, roads, industrial clusters will soon be deployed, and all his apprentice workers will have regular jobs with stable income without having to work as hired labor or on the fields as at present.

Cam My is the only district-level locality in the province that has not yet approved a town. In October 2020, the Provincial People's Council issued a resolution to approve the policy of establishing Long Giao town and is submitting it to the Ministry of Home Affairs and the National Assembly’s Standing Committee for consideration and approval. The approval for the establishment of Long Giao town not only meets the expectations and efforts of the Party Committee and the people of Long Giao commune over the years, but also meets the standards of district-level administrative units. In the future, Long Giao town will be developed in the direction of urbanization of industrialization and modernization. This will be the central urban area of Cam My District, creating a ‘driving force’ to bring into play the potentials and advantages of the region, to carry out economic restructuring and to redistribute labor between industries and communes in the district
