Following the tradition of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO), the provincial Union of Friendship Organizations, despite their young age, has made great progress, not only bridging international friends to with Dong Nai, but also mobilizing many resources into the socio-economic development of Dong Nai.
The provincial Union of Friendship Organizations signs an
agreement to coordinate mobilization of non-governmental funding sources with
the Department of Planning and Investment and the Dong Nai Industrial Zones Authority.
The proud tradition of People’s Diplomacy
According to Ms. Tran Thi Thu Thuy, Chief Representative of the VUFO’s Southern Office, during President Ho Chi Minh liftetime, he paid special attention to the issue of international solidarity to enlist the support of world friends with the independence of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam. Immediately after the successful August Revolution in August 1945, President Ho Chi Minh directly directed the establishment of the Vietnam Friendship Association (1945) and the Vietnam-China Friendship Association (1946). These are the first two people’s friendship organizations of our country established after the birth of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam.
One of the most memorable milestones in the development of the solidarity relationship between the Vietnamese people and international friends was on November 17, 1950, in the Viet Bac War Zone, President Ho Chi Minh sent a letter to the Congress on the Establishment of the World Peace Protection Committee of Vietnam. Just two days later, on 19 November 1950, the Congress to establish the World Peace Protection Committee of Vietnam (now the Vietnam Peace Committee – VPC) was solemnly held in Diem Mac commune, Dinh Hoa district, Thai Nguyen province. At this congress, President Ho Chi Minh was the number one peace soldier in Vietnam, and elected Ton Duc Thang to be the Honorary Chairman of the World Peace Protection Committee of Vietnam.
Since its inception, the World Peace Protection Committee of Vietnam has actively participated in the world people’s peace movement. Took it a step further, the World Peace Protection Committee of Vietnam also enlisted the consent, support, solidarity and cooperation of the progressive people around the world towards cause of national liberation, building and defending the homeland of the Vietnamese people. Originating from the exciting and practical activities, the righteous struggle movements of the Vietnamese people have been unanimously and supported by world friends, both physically and mentally.
In the period of renewal and international integration as today, the people’s diplomacy has become more and more important, has a strategic position, and is identified as the 3 pillars of modern diplomacy. Through the VUFO, the image of the country and its people has been increasingly known to international friends. The VUFO continues to mobilize a great deal of resources from countries and international organizations for socio-economic development projects, taking care and ensuring social security for the Vietnamese people.
Over the past 70 years, together with Party and State diplomacy, people's diplomacy has gone through a historic journey with strong and comprehensive changes, has been actively contributing to the cause of national liberation, construction and defense, bringing Vietnam closer to the world's five continents. Today, with the instillation and creative application of Ho Chi Minh's thought on people's diplomacy, our Party always considers this work an important element, one of the three pillars of modern diplomacy to successfully implement the Party's foreign policy.
Not just a Spirit
Ms. Tran Thi Phuc, a resident of the Vietnam-Han friendship residential area, happily said that before 2016, her family with 4 members had no land and housing, their life was floating on fish rafts on La Nga river. “Fortunately, my family was considered by the commune and the Provincial Union of Friendship Organizations helped to settle in the permanent house. In addition, my family was also given a 300 square meter plot of land to grow vegetables and raise chickens”- Ms. Phuc said.
Cam My district is one of the localities that make good use of the non-government funding resources mobilized and introduced by the Union of Friendship Organizations of the province, especially the school projects. Ms. Vo Thi Ngoc Lam, Vice Chairman of Cam My District People's Committee said: “During the development of the district, we always take advantage of and respect the support sources of the Provincial Union of Friendship Organizations. Thanks to that support, we have renovated and upgraded a number of school buildings in our area”.
Specifically, the district has renovated and upgraded the branch of Xuan Tay Primary School (Xuan Tay commune) with 11 classrooms and auxiliary works such as toilets, fences, school grounds, etc.; Or the renovation of the subdivision of Hamlet 4 of Song Ray Kindergarten (Song Ray commune) including building 2 new classrooms with construction area of 180m2, repairing 3 existing classrooms with an area of 291m2, building new gates, fence, new concrete yard with an area of 200m2 with a total investment of over 2 billion VND.
