Self-discipline to improve skills

In the past 5 years, Vietnam Center Power Tech Co., Ltd. (Nhon Trach 2 Industrial Park, specializing in the production of batteries) has invested in technology innovation, prioritizing supporting industries to boost its production. Skilled workers are prioritized by the company to work as machine operators. Modern machines are pre-programmed, so workers are only required to execute a few small steps for them to operate. However, in the process of operating the machines, the employees are supposed to have a flair for handling incidents in time, not to affect the working process. This requires the employees to master technology, fully grasp the production process and be quick in all situations arising.

Mr. Tran Van Hai, the leader of direct machine operation at the factory, said that laborers are often inclined to wait for their enterprises to provide training and then go at it. However, when assigning laborers to operate modern machines, enterprises will make their assignment based on their laborers’ performance at work. Creativity and responsibility at work are considered conditions for businesses’ selection. Certainly, skilled workers will be offered with higher income and less strenuous work than unskilled workers.

Similarly, An Phu Thinh Joint Stock Company (Long Thanh District) has invested in many automatic weaving machines to serve its production needs. This kind of machine is characterized by the ability of weaving automatically; therefore, finished products are beautiful and have less defects. Mr. Mai Viet Quy, workshop manager of An Phu Thinh Joint Stock Company, said that when our company put automatic production system with new technology into use, employees should voluntarily improve their skills and take pains to learn to ensure smooth operation. If employees are active in their work and keep themselves updated with technology, they will be secured with a position in the business and higher income.

According to a number of heads of HR departments at enterprises, employees are still subjective and not taking initiative for vocational training. Many employees are satisfied with their current stable jobs and income, resulting in no thought about a perspective that the industrial revolution 4.0 will partly replace human forces in direct operation. Unskilled workers will have to quit their jobs or reduce their workload and, as a result, their incomes will be cut down. Besides, many employees think that if they change jobs, new enterprises will also provide trainings, so they have no intention to improve their skills or learn an additional one.

Creativity is encouraged at work

Over the past time, the province has attracted numerous qualified investors with methodical investment projects and modern technology equipment; thereby, creating conditions for employees to access modern technology and improve their qualifications and skills. In particular, vocational training schools have also gradually upgraded and closely linked with enterprises in on-demand vocational trainings so that employees can be experienced and quick at grasping their tasks.

Mr. Maosheng Liu, Deputy General Director of Vietnam Center Power Tech Co., Ltd. (Nhon Trach 2 Industrial Park) advised that the application of modern machinery systems in production is an opportunity for employees to access advanced technology of the world, approach Industry 4.0 and improve their qualifications and labor productivity, and increase income and reduce labor force. Therefore, in addition to vocational training at enterprises, employees will be allowed to go abroad to study, to improve their qualifications and skills, meet the innovation and development requirements of enterprises.

According to business owners, currently, employment of skilled workers is very difficult, so the province needs a strategy to orient vocational training for employees, especially high-tech employees. It is necessaryfor vocational establishments to change to more modern machinery systems and training programs to meet more practical needs. Employees are also advised to raise their awareness and working behaviour. Along with that, propaganda needs to be strengthened so that they can access and master production technology early and be more proactive at work.

Mr. Quach Thuan Duc, General Director of Junmay Label Textile Co., Ltd. (Trang Bom district) advised that the enterprise’s continuous innovation of production technology has created opportunities for its employees to access to modern technology and methodical performance. When investing in modern technologies in production, the enterprise will appoint skilled employees to important departments and posts. Employees’ agility and creativity play an important role in “core” production divisions of the enterprise.
