Eastern Gateway to prepare for Investment Waves

​According to economic experts, the eastern gateway area of the province will be the place to attract many domestic and foreign investors in the coming period. This is also the key economic area of the Eastern Subregion in the construction planning of Ho Chi Minh City.

*Welcoming investment ‘waves’

When the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway came into operation, domestic and foreign investors came to Long Khanh City, Thong Nhat, Xuan Loc Districts to invest more than before. The industrial parks of Xuan Loc, Long Khanh, Suoi Tre, Dau Giay were nearly filled. Currently, the aforementioned localities have proposed the Provincial People's Committee (PPC) to expand and invest in new industrial parks to catch the ‘wave’ of domestic and foreign investment. Simultaneously, districts and Long Khanh City also urgently called for investment in technical infrastructure of industrial clusters in the area in order to relocate, invite small and medium-sized enterprises to come into production to protect the environment.

According to Chairman of Cam My District People's Committee Huynh Tan Thin, over the past time, many domestic and foreign enterprises have come to this district to study the environment and land with the intention to invest in factories, commercial centers, residential areas. The district is now quickly completing the land planning, constructing transport infrastructure to catch the inflows of investment capital into the industrial and service sectors. Chairman of Xuan Loc District People's Committee Nguyen Thi Cat Tien also commented: “Some large domestic and foreign corporations have come to the district to learn about and plan to invest in agriculture, tourism and services, etc. If the said projects are invited by experienced investors, quickly deployed and put into operation, it will create a driving force for the local economic development”. Xuan Loc district is calling for investment in a series of large tourism projects with a total capital up to tens of million USD such as projects of Gia Ui Lake, Nui Le (Le Mountain), Thac Troi (Heaven Waterfall), etc. Besides, Cam My district is also inviting businesses to pour capital into infrastructure investment in industrial parks, industrial clusters, urban areas, trade centers, supermarkets. Long Khanh City, Thong Nhat District has also planned many projects in the fields of infrastructure, tourism, industry, and services to invite investors.

*Developing agricultural product processing 

The eastern gateway area is developing areas specializing in growing fruit trees, industrial crops, vegetables, fruits, corn, and so on. This area has a large area and quantity of agricultural products, suitable for being a raw material area, meeting the requirements of processing and exporting with large orders. Therefore, Long Khanh city and relevant districts will give priority to inviting businesses to invest in the field of deep processing of agricultural products. Thus, there will be no effect of 'falling in price', 'crop losses but good prices'. While agricultural prices are low, processing can still increase and still ensure stable output.

Chairman of the PPC Cao Tien Dung said: “The province focuses on supporting a number of localities to complete the infrastructure of industrial clusters in Cam My and Dinh Quan districts to attract investment in the field of deep agricultural processing to increase added value for agricultural products in Dong Nai”. For deeply processed agricultural products, the value could be 4-10 times higher than the current crude price. Currently, Dong Nai's eastern gateway area is home to many kinds of fruit trees and industrial trees that are famous for their quality and in large quantity, including rambutan, durian, mango, pomelo, avocado, black pepper, coffee, banana, jackfruit. In addition, in some districts such as Cam My, Xuan Loc, people also plant some medicinal plants, if processed, they will bring great value.

Assoc. Dr. Vo Phuoc Tan, an expert on international trade, said: “Dong Nai is home to a lot of fruits, agricultural products and precious medicinal herbs, if deeply processed for consumption in the domestic market, and for export, the added value will be many times higher than the current crude selling price. However, it is necessary to create a close link between growers and businesses so that farmers can take care of production, businesses can rest assured processing and consumer markets. Thus, farmers increase profits from agricultural production area ”.

Vi Quan
