Department of Natural Resources and Environment said it would conduct an evaluation and replication of the waste odor treatment model by IMO probiotics in order to limit the current pollution of soil, water and air environment.

The model of using IMO probiotics to treat odors from wastewater, domestic waste and animal manure is being applied by many households and animal husbandry farms in Vinh Cuu District. The advantage of this enamel is that, users can make it at home according to the formulas and available materials.
Handling odor in livestock
For over one year, many animal husbandry farms in Vinh Cuu district have been 'rescued' by using probiotics under the guidance of the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and Department of Natural Resources and Environment. Initially, they were allocated probiotics at the CPCs, towns and hamlet culture houses. Later, households and farms made their own probiotics at home.
Mr. Bui Van Duyen (Hamlet 3, Vinh Tan Commune, Vinh Cuu District) said that in the past, despite using many ways such as mixing probiotics into food, constructing biogas, cleaning regularly; but every time there is a village meeting, people all asked to "close" his hog farm over 300 pigs because of the smell flying around the neighborhood. But, that was the situation two years ago. Since he used probiotics, the odor has decreased, and people no longer complain about it. Also, Mr. Duyen saved VND 50,000 of probiotic daily.
In Tan Binh Commune, from an initial point, up to now, the commune has deployed 7 points of fermenting probiotics and providing probiotics for about 300 households and farms in the area. Mr. Le Van Tai, Chairman of Tan Binh Commune People's Committee, said that from the source of the seed of the commune, people have come up with three types: probiotics for eliminating odors of garbage and animal and poultry manure; composting organic fertilizer for plants; Making biological plant protection drugs. "The typical hamlets and residential areas of the commune are applying this method to treat the smell of garbage and sewage from sewers" - Mr. Tai said.
Mr. Nguyen Huu Binh, Deputy Head of Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Vinh Cuu District said that the model of using probiotics to treat odors of domestic waste and animal wastes was implemented in 12 communes and towns. The Department of Natural Resources and Environment also organized training for people and farms on formulas, home brewing process and how to use it. Probiotics combine with different by-products to produce different uses. For example, if households and livestock farms want to eliminate odors, they will use probiotic to brew with rice bran, cane sugar, yogurt; And for gardeners who want to compost organic fertilizer, they will use probiotic to compost with fish, shrimp shells, plant remains, leftovers; If they want biologic pesticides, they will brew it with ginger, lemongrass, garlic and chili.
Making organic fertilizer for production
Currently, the trend of using biological products as fertilizers and pesticides in agricultural production is of great interest to many people. This model not only saves fertilizer costs, pesticides, reduces soil color but also ensures the health of farmers and consumers, contributing to environmental protection.
Mr. Tran Thanh Tung (Hamlet 2, Ma Da Commune, Vinh Cuu District) said that for more than a year, he has not spent money on buying fertilizers and pesticides for more than 6 hectares of orchids and pomelos. With the support of the District Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, he made his own compost by using bio-fermented probiotic compost with banana stalks, peanut hulls and shells, cabbage shears, adding fish, duck eggs to create water format for watering plants. For pesticides, he did the same but incubated with garlic, chili, ginger and sprayed directly on the leaves and stems. "I saved 70% of the cost compared to using fertilizers and chemical drugs" - Mr. Tung shared.
Mr. Nguyen Tran Phuoc Loc, Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vinh Cuu District, said that the model of applying probiotics to treat waste odors, making fertilizer and pesticides has many benefits in agricultural production and environmental protection. It is to minimize costs of fertilizers and plant protection drugs; proactive annual investment source; create entirely organic agricultural products.
In terms of environment, waste products and agricultural by-products are fully utilized, reducing emissions; soil and water environment is less affected; reduce air pollution in cultivated areas, husbandry areas, residential areas. “The project on transparency of agricultural products in Vinh Cuu District in 2020 aims to have 50% of households and farms use bio enzymes in agricultural production and environment by the end of this year. We are actively propagating to this model more and more replicated” - Mr. Loc informed.
