According to the Decision on approving the overall master plan on Vietnam's seaport system development in the 2021 - 2030 period, with a vision toward 2050 just issued on September 22, 2021 by the Deputy Prime Minister of the Government Le Van Thanh, Dong Nai Province will have 03 seaport areas being planned for development in the coming period.

Specifically, the Phuoc An, Go Dau and Phuoc Thai Wharf Areas (on Thi Vai River) have a planning scope including land and water areas on Thi Vai River in Nhon Trach District. This port area has the function to serve the socio-economic development of the provinces of the Southeast and the Central Highlands region with general, container, bulk, liquid or gas cargo berths. For vessel size, this wharf area can accommodate ships with a tonnage of up to 60 thousand DWT (DeadWeight Tonnage) downstream of Phuoc An Bridge and up to 30 thousand DWT upstream of Phuoc An Bridge to Go Dau and Phuoc Thai, which is suitable for the conditions of exploitation on the navigational channels and static air crossing works.
The Nhon Trach Wharf Area has a planning scope including the water areas to the right of the Saigon - Vung Tau Channel, the Dong Nai Channel, and the Dong Tranh Channel in the territory of Nhon Trach District. Its functions are to serve the socio-economic development of the Southeast provinces with general, bulk, liquid or gas cargo berths. For vessel size, this wharf area can accommodate ships with a tonnage of up to 45 thousand DWT or larger to reduce the load in accordance with the conditions of exploitation of the navigational channels and static air crossing works.
The Long Binh Tan Wharf Area (on Dong Nai River) includes land and water areas to the right of the Dong Nai Channel (downstream of Dong Nai Bridge). The function is to be a satellite port area, a focal point for consolidating the goods for seaports in the region and serving the local economic and social development. This port area has general, container, liquid or gas cargo berths. For vessel size, this wharf area can accommodate ships with a tonnage of up to 5 thousand DWT.
Also according to the approved plan, the seaports in the province belong to the group of seaports No. 4.
