Simultaneous groundbreaking scheduled for June 2026
Long Thanh Airport has been identified as one of the major growth drivers for Dong Nai City in the coming time. To spread the airport’s development momentum across localities, Dong Nai Province (now Dong Nai City) planned to implement projects to upgrade roads: 769, 773 and build a new road 770B. Although these projects have been implemented for many years, due to difficulties in planning and site clearance, the groundbreaking for their construction has not yet taken place.
With the Government requiring Long Thanh Airport to complete construction and commence phase 1 operations by the end of 2026, the urgency to launch these transport projects has become even greater. Relevant agencies have therefore accelerated investment procedures for these projects in recent time.
According to Dinh Tien Hai, Director of the City Project Management Board for Construction Investment, the projects to upgrade and expand Roads 769 and 773, together with the construction of Road 770B, are all scheduled to break ground simultaneously in June 2026.
The projects: upgrading and expanding roads: 769, 773 and building road 770B have a total investment of over VND 10 trillion.
Currently, for the Project to Upgrade and Expand Road 769, the City Construction Investment Project Management Board is currently completing post-basic design and cost estimates, while also coordinating with the Railway Project Management Authority under the Ministry of Construction to resolve issues involving the intersection between Road 769 and the North-South Railway at Km1661+074.
For the Project to Upgrade and Expand Road 773, the City Construction Investment Project Management Board has completed the survey dossier, prepared the construction drawing designs, and submitted the cost estimate to the Department of Construction for appraisal. These documents are expected to be approved before May 18.
Meanwhile, for the Project to Build Road 770B, surveys are being conducted and construction drawing designs are being prepared. The project is submitted for approval of documents before May 18. "After completing the procedures, the City Investment and Construction Project Management Board will select contractors to commence construction of these 3 projects before June 30, 2026," Dinh Tien Hai added.
Construction set to be completed within one year
To meet the June 2026 groundbreaking target, land clearance work is being accelerated by the City Land Fund Development Center and local authorities in areas affected by the projects.
According to Nguyen Cao Tai, Director of the City Land Fund Development Center, the unit is coordinating with localities to carry out procedures according to the site clearance process. The goal is to commence construction of the projects in June 2026. Construction will proceed while remaining site clearance continues, and by September 2026, the handover of all land for the construction of these projects will be completed.
At a recent meeting of the Steering Committee for Key Projects in Dong Nai City, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the City People’s Committee Nguyen Van Ut noted that although the transport projects connecting Long Thanh Airport have been approved for many years, the implementation progress is still slow. Therefore, for these projects, relevant units need to accelerate the progress to soon commence construction.
At the same meeting, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Head of the Steering Committee Vo Tan Duc assigned the City Investment and Construction Project Management Board to complete investment procedures to ensure the commencement of projects before June 30, 2026.
Dinh Tien Hai said alongside accelerating procedures and ensuring the commencement of projects in June 2026, the City Investment and Construction Project Management Board has set the goal of completing the construction of these projects within 1 year. "The City Investment and Construction Project Management Board determined that for projects with a construction scale that is not too complex, the construction completion time will only extend for 1 year. Currently, materials and supplies for construction are also sufficient, and once the sites are fully handed over, the projects must be completed within one year,” Dinh Tien Hai added.
