Footwear exports are still growing during the pandemic

​According to the Department of Industry and Trade, in June 2020, the export turnover of footwear in Dong Nai province was more than US $ 411 million, an increase of US $ 80 million compared to the previous month and an increase of nearly 12% compared to June 2016. Footwear manufactured in Dong Nai has been exported to about 80 countries and territories around the world.

Currently, the province is in the top 5 provinces and cities leading in exporting shoes. Dong Nai's footwear export turnover accounts for more than 20% of the country's total export turnover. Most of footwear enterprises of Dong Nai process for famous brands in the world such as Nike, Adidas, Puma, Reebok ...

Many foreign customers appreciate the ability of enterprises to execute orders in Dong Nai. Therefore, for many years, the footwear industry of Dong Nai has always maintained a high growth rate. Recently, the Covid-19 epidemic, causing many of the province's export industries to grow negatively, but particularly the footwear maintained a relatively high positive growth.

 Mr. Tran Quoc Bao, Production Manager of Colored Rubber Shoes Joint Stock Company (Bien Hoa City) said: “The Covid-19 pandemic greatly affected manufacturing industries, including footwear. Many foreign partners have had to suspend orders or extend delivery time, causing most companies to have difficulties in both input and output. However, from June 2020, the export market has been more favorable”.

 Dong Nai's footwear exports to about 80 countries and territories, but the major market is the United States and Europe.

The largest export turnover

Among the five key export items of Dong Nai include footwear, textiles, wood products, textile fibers, machinery, equipment and spare parts. The main export items account for nearly 60% of the province's total export turnover. In the first 6 months of 2020, the key export items will reach nearly 5 billion USD. Shoes are the largest export item in the province and this is also the largest trade item of Dong Nai with over 1.7 billion USD.

 Mr. Le Van Loc, Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade said: "Footwear is the industry with the largest export turnover in the province, this is the industry that has maintained a very high growth rate for many years."

 According to forecasts of the Vietnam Leather and Footwear Association, Vietnam's footwear export market is highly dependent on the Covid-19 epidemic. If the epidemic is well controlled in August or September, the footwear industry will recover again in October.

 Mr. Nguyen Duc Thuan, Chairman of the Vietnam Leather and Footwear Association, commented that the Covid-19 epidemic caused the orders of many footwear and bags businesses to reduce by about 50%. This year, footwear enterprises have lost their shoes at the beginning of the year, so it is expected that the Covid-19 pandemic in countries will be controlled so that the footwear season by the end of 2020 can be compensated.
