The Law on Environmental Protection 2020, which takes effect from January 1, 2021, stipulates that manufacturing and importing organizations and individuals must have an expanded responsibility for waste treatment.
Specifically, there are two groups that have to carry out extended responsibilities for waste treatment, including: organizations and individuals that manufacture and import products and packages that are subject to recycling responsibility; Manufacturers and importers of products and packages are subject to financial contributions to the Environmental Protection Fund to support waste treatment activities. The detailed recycling rates and financial obligations are being organized by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment to collect opinions from people, businesses and localities through online contributions.
This regulation is applied only for products and packages manufactured, imported for sale, consumption and disposal in Vietnam; it is not applied to products and packages for export or temporary import for re-export.
