The first sections of the Phan Thiet - Dau Giay Expressway project in Xuan Loc District have been constructed with crushed stone, marking an important milestone in the construction process of this national key project.

Construction of crushed stone for the first sections
At the end of September 2020, the Phan Thiet-Dau Giay Expressway, one of 11 component projects of the East North-South Expressway Project, started construction. Phan Thiet - Dau Giay Expressway has a length of 99km, passing through Binh Thuan and Dong Nai provinces, of which the section through Dong Nai area is 51.3km long, including 2 construction and installation Packages No. 3 and 4.
In October 2020, the construction and installation package No. 3, Phan Thiet - Dau Giay Expressway project was awarded by a joint venture of contractors including Vietnam Construction and Import-Export Joint Stock Corporation (Vinaconex) and Trading Co., Ltd. Trung Chinh construction (Vinaconex-Trung Chinh Joint Venture), the winning unit, officially started construction. Construction and installation the Package No. 3 is the package with the largest construction volume of the Phan Thiet - Dau Giay Expressway project with a length of more than 35km, along with that, the contractor has to build 24 bridges, 16 box culverts and 5 tunnels. Therefore, right after the construction started, the contractor mobilized nearly 400 workers, machinery and equipment, organized 22 construction projects, worked day and night.
In the past time, due to the lack of supply of materials, especially the source of land for road leveling, it has affected the progress of the Package No. 3. However, the contractor has managed to take advantage of and coordinate the land resources during the construction process to ensure progress. At the beginning of July, the first kilometers of the Package No. 3 were built by the contractor to distribute crushed stone to serve the first layer of asphalt concrete. This is an important milestone in the construction process of Phan Thiet - Dau Giay Expressway project.
Mr. Nguyen Hoang Hai, Executive Director of the Package No. 3, said that according to the design, Phan Thiet - Dau Giay Expressway will be carpeted with 3 layers of asphalt concrete. Currently, the contractor is carrying out the construction of crushed stone to serve the first layer of asphalt concrete for some sections on the route. “Currently, the contractor has completed the construction of crushed stone for the first 2km of the Package No. 3 in Xuan Loc District area. The contractor is also implementing construction supplying and distributing crushed stone, adding 3 other positions on the route under the Package No. 3", said Mr. Nguyen Hoang Hai.

Coping with the rainy season, ensuring project progress
Currently, Dong Nai has officially entered the rainy season, which greatly affects the implementation of construction items of the Phan Thiet - Dau Giay Expressway project. Therefore, contractors are also making construction plans in the rainy season to guarantee the project progress.
Engineer Le Dinh Tan built Group D5, of the Package No. 4, said that to overcome difficulties caused by rain, the construction unit mobilized manpower to cut and drain water throughout the route. At low places, the water is flooded locally. The construction unit also digs ditches and directs the flow so that the water does not concentrate on the road for construction.
According to Mr. Le Anh Tuan, Commander of the Package No. 4, said that during the road construction process, when it rains, the ground is wet, so it cannot be carried out. Meanwhile, in the past 2 months, frequent rain in the area has also affected the construction work. Therefore, in order to overcome difficulties caused by rainy weather, contractors are currently concentrating their manpower on casting beams, constructing bridge piers and culverts of all kinds, and speeding up the process of distributing crushed stone. It is expected that by August 2021, more than 7 km of crushed stone will be completed in the Package No. 4.
Mr. Nguyen Hoang Hai said that for the Package No. 3, in addition to the difficulty of material sources, especially the source of leveling land, which has not been resolved, the construction work also faced difficulties due to rainy weather. "It rains so the ground is wet, so after a rain you have to wait 2-3 days of sunshine for the ground to dry before you can continue construction," said Mr. Nguyen Hoang Hai.
In order to cope with the rainy weather, currently, the contractor for Package No. 3 also focuses on construction of concrete structural items, bridge girders, sewer pipes, prefabricated components and preparing materials concentrated at the construction site for construction when the weather is favorable. Because these are the items that are less affected in rainy season.
