General Secretary, President Nguyen Phu Trong calls for solidarity to fight Covid-19 pandemic

 “THE APPEAL OF THE GENERAL SECRETARY, PRESIDENT NGUYEN PHU TRONG to compatriots and soldiers living throughout the country and overseas

Dear compatriots, comrades, and soldiers living throughout the country and overseas,

The Covid-19 pandemic continues to spread across the globe, profoundly impacting every aspect of the nation's socio-economic lives. To date, more than 72,000 people have been infected, nearly 3.5 million died in nearly 200 countries and territories around the world. The situation is still complicated and unpredictable, possibly causing more serious consequences.

For the last time, under the leadership of the Party and the State, the direction and administration of the Government, the Prime Minister, the National Steering Committee on the prevention and control of the Covid-19 pandemic, our branches and levels, localities and political system have united and drastically implemented many synchronous measures to both prevent and limit the spread of the pandemic and ensure the implementation of economic development social - economic tasks, ensuring social security and safety. Initially, there have been many positive results, showing the strength of our national unity, the determination of the entire Party, the entire people and our army in the fight against the pandemic, recognized and highly appreciated by the world.

On behalf of the Party and the State, I highly appreciate and commend the participation of the Party committees, Party organizations and authorities from the Central to grassroots levels; the tireless efforts of the health sector, the military forces, the police and the central departments, ministries and branches; the timely and positive participation of the Fatherland Front, mass organizations, business community and news agencies. In particular, I would like to thank our compatriots, comrades, soldiers throughout the country and our compatriots abroad for believing, supporting and enthusiastically responding to the pandemic prevention and control.

Currently, we are at a time when the risk of infection in the community is increasing, the entire political system must be highly focused to continue to proactively prevent and effectively control the pandemic; not too panicked but absolutely not subjective and inattentive; grasp the situation, forecast the worst possibility, promptly propose effective measures to control and prevent the spread of infection. Each agency, unit, organization, and locality should follow closely the direction of the superiors and take the initiative and coordinate more closely to carry out the pandemic prevention and control, and prioritize resources, time and effort for this important task.

Dear compatriots, comrades, and soldiers living throughout the country and overseas,

Our people have a tradition of patriotism and humanity. Every time the country encounters difficulties, that tradition is further multiplied. Over the past time, our entire people have agreed and worked together with the Party and the State to effectively prevent and control the pandemic. In the coming time, we will probably face more difficulties, requiring more and more efforts and determinations.

In the fight against the pandemic at this crucial time, a number of prevention and control measures will certainly affect the activities of organizations and individuals, as well as daily life of our people. In the spirit of considering human health and life above all, I urge all compatriots, comrades and soldiers throughout the country and compatriots abroad to unite, unify the will and act, drastically and effectively implement the undertakings of the Party and the State, the direction and administration of the Government and the Prime Minister. Every citizen is a soldier on the front of the pandemic prevention and control.

As an active and responsible member of the international community, Vietnam expresses its deep interest, shares, and sympathies and is trying its best, making efforts in practical cooperation, timely coordinating with other countries, especially with those heavily affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. I think that, in the current situation, solidarity and coordination of global actions are the basis to ensure the final victory of the world before this pandemic.

Let's our Vietnamese people join together and overcome all difficulties and challenges to defeat the Covid-19 pandemic!
