65th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs' Day (July 27th) - Care for families of the wounded and martyrs: more and more practical and effective

Ms Le Thi My Phuong, Director of Labor - War Invalids and Social Affairs Department stated that for many years the care for martyrs’ families in the province has become a regular and consistent activity. Not only have allowance regimes been strictly implemented, many more similar campaigns have been initiated in a variety of ways such as welcoming war invalids and wounded home, taking care of Vietnamese heroic mothers, sponsoring parents of martyrs, raising children of martyrs, houses of compassion, opening deposit account, supporting the invalids in production…

 

 

Since 2007 until now, 1.3 billion VND has been contributed by many organizations and departments to open deposit account for 606 war invalids and wounded as well as martyrs’ relatives having difficulties, build 123 new houses of compassion, and repair 1,226 houses of policy beneficiaries with the total expense of 17 billion VND. All the Vietnamese heroic mothers have been sponsored by units. Especially, fund for Gratitude has collected 57 billion VND to financially support the policy beneficiaries since its establishment in 1999. For the first 6 months, although the economy has been facing a lot of difficulties, a total amount of 3,5 billion VND has been collected throughout the province and shall be allocated to the practical activities. Many units have become trustworthy charities, some of which are Sonadezi Industrial zone development Company, Dong nai food Corporation, MTV Tin Nghia limited company, Dong Nai Rubber Company, Dong Tien Textile Company…

That is the attempt of the province in caring for beneficiary households and national contributors in the area. Accordingly, in order to fulfill the communal purpose, the whole political system has come up with practical programs to support the lives of poor households, including migrants arriving from other provinces.

Mr. Co The Hanh, Vice Head of Labor – War Invalids and Social Affairs Office of Dinh Quan district stated that, the district regularly carry out the survey of poor households that are beneficiaries in order to support them better and more practically. For example, as for the household of Mr. Pham Van To (Thanh Son commune), who is a wounded soldier, there are four members in his family, his wife is constantly ill, he has 3 hectare of soil to plant mango but  his family is still struggling with finance due to lack of labor. With the insight of the circumstance, besides building a house of compassion, the province helped the household start a poultry farm which is easier and more suitable to the health status of the family members in order to get better income. To those who are completely unable to work, the province encouraged philanthropists provide them with monthly financial supports.

As a result, many beneficiary households found a motivation to overcome difficulties; and this program is also implemented adopted in many other localities. Such as in Tan Phu district, Mr Hoang Sy Trac (Phu Son commune), who served the country during war time and was exposed to hazardous substances, is living in poverty with his three sons, who are attending university, so the province supported his family and raised the monthly allowance to nearly 4 million so that his sons can continue the studying.  Mr Vi The Bong (Thanh Son commune), who currently owns 3 hectare of paddy field, 1 store of herbal medicines with total income at around 870 thousand VND per month, which helps his family get rid of poverty, but his three sons are attending universities at the moment, so the province suggested applying the policy for the poor to his family with such incentives as medical insurance, education, financial loans in order to support his sons in their studying so that they can improve their living conditions in the future.

From the supports of the State and community, as well as their attempts, may beneficiaries have not only got rid of poverty but also helped their comrades, becoming exemplary to the community. For example the wounded soldier Tran Van Phu (Long Khanh town), who took part in Xuan Loc campaign in 1975 and returned home with only his backpack and war wounds, has now overcome his sufferings and opened a production facility that not only stabilizes his family income but also creates jobs for many other locals. For another example, the wounded soldier Tran Ngoc Tuong (Cam my commune) who has been voted as the typically productive farmer for many years with annual income every of over 500 million VND has always been actively giving his comrades good deeds.
