Trang Bom mud-free eel breeding becomes effective

 

With 22 eel ponds and 180 under construction with an expected scale of about 4 million eels per batch by the end of this year, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Lap (An Binh Hamlet, Trung Hoa Commune) is considered as the largest and most effective eel farming household in Trang Bom district.

Mr. Lap said upon the 'Building models, transferring high-quality eel seed production and commercialization' project in Trang Bom district, implemented by the District-level People's Committee in collaboration with the Center for Sustainable Agricultural Research and Development, at the end of July 2019, he started to build 2 eel breeding ponds with a number of 3 thousand eel seeds. During the breeding process, he fed eel with earthworms, special rice bran for catfish. He added mixed garlic chili juice to the bran to increase the resistance to eel, prevent helminthiasis and ‘skin ulcers’ for eels. About 6 months, eel weighed nearly 200g per head, he sold for his termites for VND 190,000/kg and earned a profit of over VND 50 million. After the success of first batch, Mr. Lap continued to build nearly 20 more eel ponds.

Lap said that he was currently renovating the pigsty with aims to build about 180 ponds and raise about 4 million eels per batch. When things go according to plan, Mr. Lap will have the largest eel farm in the district by the beginning of 2021. “I raise eel in a sure way with proper investment and technical process. I deposit 100% of eel seeds for the whole year. During my farming process, I treat the water source by buying sea corals to put in filter tanks to balance the pH, and adding natural antibodies to eel food. I change the water 2 times a day, about 2 hours after the eel has finished eating.” – said Lap.

Lap shared that the mud-free eel farming did not require much area or much care, did not need a large investment capital but brought high economic efficiency. Especially, this breeding model does not cause environmental pollution and is suitable for households in urban areas and farmers with little productive land.

In terms of output, Lap said that there are many units that supply seeds, feed and monopoly sales for farmers nowadays. In addition, there are also many traders who regularly publish information on social networks to search for sources of goods for wholesale markets, and he himself also goes online to find and sell his goods. So basically, So basically, farmers always feel secure about its output.

The leaders of Trang Bom said that they would continue to carry out the aforesaid 'Building models, transferring high-quality eel seed production and commercialization'; The district functional departments would support on technical training, model tours, inputs-outputs connection and help farmers access preferential credit for secure eel farming.
