Rising number of Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease (HFMD) & Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) patients

Dong Nai Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) informed its news that in last week, it has recorded 118 cases of hospitalization for dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF), an increase of 41 cases compared to the previous week. Cumulative since the beginning of the year, the province has recorded nearly 2.2 thousand cases of DHF. Bien Hoa City is still the leading locality with nearly 600 cases, followed by Cam My District, Long Khanh City, Nhon Trach District, Long Thanh and Trang Bom.
A case of dengue was hospitalized for treatment at Dong Nai Children's Hospital.
Meanwhile, the number of hand-foot-and-mouth disease cases last week was 112, an increase of 28 cases over the previous week, bringing the total number of cases from the beginning of the year to the whole province to more than 870 cases. Bien Hoa City, Trang Bom District and Nhon Trach District are the provinces with the highest number of cases.
Nguyen Thanh Huyen (Phuoc Thai Commune, Long Thanh District), who is taking care of her children at the hospital, said her 21-month-old child was admitted to the hospital on July 15 with a high fever of 39 degrees Celsius, convulsions and rashes in her mouth. After giving first aid at home, the family took the child to Long Thanh Regional General Hospital and was transferred to Dong Nai Children's Hospital with diagnosis of hand, foot and mouth disease. After more than a week of treatment, her child has no fever but her mouth still has some acne, anorexia and fussy.
The case of S.H.D. (19 months of age, living in Song Trau Commune, Trang Bom District), doctors determined to be the most typical case of hand, foot and mouth disease. In the past 5 days, there were many blisters on her hands, feet, throat, buttocks. Mrs. Truc Vuong, her mother thinks that it is possible that because she went to preschool, exposed to someone with hand, foot and mouth disease at school, and then D. was infected. Since the day she was sick, Mrs. Vuong and her husband had to take time off work, take turns to care for their children.
Doctor Han Binh Thuan, Deputy Head of Tropical Diseases Department of Dong Nai Children's Hospital, said that the department is treating 23 patients with hand, foot and mouth disease. In addition, there are about 10 cases of dengue hemorrhagic fever, measles, chicken pox and convulsive fever. The number of cases of HFMD, which is currently being treated at the department, is the highest since the beginning of the year and is on the rise.
The cause of this situation is that it is now in the rainy season, which is a favorable condition for bacteria and viruses to grow and spread. HFMD is spread quickly through hands, boils, and sharing toys so if one child in the class is ill, the chances of others being infected are very high. In addition, there are children who only stay at home with grandparents and parents who do not go to daycare, but also get sick - possibly because their grandparents or parents are sick, or pick up a sick child and come home to contact his/her children, grandchildren, so they can make children sick as well.
When your child shows signs of constant high fever, mouth ulcers, palms, soles of feet, knees, buttocks with water bubbles, the child should be quickly taken to a health facility for timely examination and treatment.
