This adjustment plan also aims to develop regional space in the direction of sustainable balance and adaptation to climate change, regional links with the modern technical infrastructure. According to the adjustment decision, the region of Ho Chi Minh City will become a modern economic area, a major economic center of the country and Southeast Asia, trade - finance, science and service research, high-tech industry and specialized industry with high-level specialization, cultural - educational and training, science-technology and high-quality health care center in the Southeast. ASIAN. Ho Chi Minh City will be a nuclear city and center of knowledge and modern multi-functional economy in line with the cities in Southeast Asia.

 

The adjustment plan also provides specific directions for urban development, rural development, industrial development, tourism, trade and services, scientific research, education and training culture and sports, agriculture, forestry and transport ... of the region. The region of Ho Chi Minh City will be subdivided into subregions and economic development corridors, of which the central urban subregion includes Ho Chi Minh City and the vicinities in Long An, Binh Duong and Dong Nai provinces.

 

 

According to the planning, the eastern sub-region includes Dong Nai and Ba Ria - Vung Tau provinces. According to economic experts, this is a very important sub-region and driving force for economic development of the country. Dr. Tran Du Lich, a member of the Prime Minister's Economic Advisory Group, said that in the coming future, Bien Hoa City along with Long Thanh and Nhon Trach will form a very important economic triangle. According to Mr. Lich, Long Thanh and Nhon Trach will be remarkable urban areas. He remarked that the construction of Cat Lai Bridge, Nhon Trach will develop like District 2 of Ho Chi Minh City. Long Thanh together with the International Airport is being planned for development by the province to become an airport city.

 

Chairman of Dong Nai Association of Architects Ly Thanh Phuong also said that is necessary. According to Mr. Phuong, the urban development space of the province is mainly planned to be linked with National Highway 1 and National Highway 51, conurbations have also developed quite significantly.

 

According to the planning, Nhon Trach will be a center of clean industry, multidisciplinary industry and  regional logistics service, traffic hub, and center of recreation and ecotourism. Long Thanh will become a regional-level center of trade and finance, and national-level center of logistics service center. Trang Bom district will develop to become a third class urban area and regional-level center of logistics and eco-tourism. The districts of Long Thanh, Xuan Loc, Cam My, Thong Nhat, Tan Phu, Dinh Quan and part of Vinh Cuu district will be the growth pole in economic corridor along National Highway 1. Mr.Tran Manh Dung, Former Chairman of Dong Nai Association of Architects, said that urban development needs to stick to planning, otherwise it will be difficult to control development orientation.

 

According to the adjustment plan, the region of Ho Chi Minh City covers the entire administrative boundary of Ho Chi Minh City and seven neighboring provinces including Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Binh Duong, Binh Phuoc, Tay Ninh, Long An, Dong Nai and Tien Giang. The total area is about 30,400km2. It is forecasted that by 2030, the population of the whole region will be around 24-25 million, of which the urban population will be around 18-19 million while the rural population will be around 6-7 million, which provides 18-19 million laborers. The rate of urbanization is about 70-75%.
