Periodically health checking for employees is to help to detect occupational diseases early, have reasonable treatment, avoid unfortunate consequences as well as workers' lives. However, at present, the number of workers receiving periodical health checking and annual occupational diseases is still quite modest.

Workers still suffer from many occupational diseases
Deputy Director of the Provincial Disease Control Cenrter, Nguyen An Linh shared that lives of most employees working at enterprises are still difficult. Therefore, many employees choose to work night shifts or work overtime to have an extra income to cover their living expenses. However, working at night is contrary to the circadian rhythm which easily causes stress and fatigue making employees often mismanage, work ineffectively or prone to labor accidents and occupational diseases.
According to the report of the Department of Health, in 2018, the authorities prepared occupational hygiene management records for more than 1.6 thousand labor establishments; monitored the working environment at 368 establishments; organized periodical health checking for 74.7 thousand employees at 226 enterprises; examinated, prevented and detected of occupational diseases for more than 22,500 people at 78 enterprises. Trained on first aid, prevented and controlled of occupational diseases for more than 7.1 thousand people at 168 enterprises. Through consultation and assessment of occupational diseases, it was discovered that 25 people have occupational deafness, 6 people have hepatitis B virus and 1 person has occupational tuberculosis.
In 2020, more than 15,000 employees of 47 enterprises were examined by the provincial Disease Control Center and more than 18.6 thousand employees of 39 enterprises received periodical health checks.
A representative of the Trade Union of Bien Hoa Industrial Park said that in 2020, there were 209 cases of occupational diseases in the industrial zone. Although 100% of employees with occupational diseases treated, cared for and fully entitled to benefits with a total amount of about VND 328 million, the consequences that occupational diseases cause to their health, spirit, and energy, the working productivity of employees cannot be measured. Through the actual inspection, there were still some enterprises did not measure the working environment or measured with only rule. As a result, the working environment of employees was not guaranteed, and employees were susceptible to have occupational diseases.
Strengthen inspection and checking
According to the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs, in 2020, the Department received using declarations of more than 2.2 thousand machines and equipment with strict requirements on occupational safety and health from 218 enterprises. Inspected and guided 72 enterprises to register labor regulations. In addition, the Department carried out 20 thematic inspections of occupational safety and health for 20 construction works and 14 inspections on compliance with the provisions of the labor law, occupational safety and health, occupational diseases at 14 enterprises; organized and guided the observance of the provisions of the labor law and occupational safety and health at 30 other enterprises.
Through the inspection and examination, it was shown that, besides a number of units and enterprises performed well, there were still businesses have not really paid attention to occupational safety and health, prevention of occupational diseases for employees. Especially in occupations with heavy and hazardous nature.
Deputy Director of the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs, Mrs Nguyen Thi Mong Thu said that in order to perform well the work of occupational safety and health at enterprises, the Department will continue to coordinate with relevant departments and branches to renew propaganda activities for communication in order to raise awareness of law enforcement and train skills on occupational safety and health for business owners and employees; expanding the application of the occupational safety and health management system in small and medium-sized enterprises with high risk of occupational accidents and diseases. At the same time, continue to support training for occupational safety and health workers of enterprises, for employees doing jobs with strict requirements on occupational safety and health and heavy, hazardous, dangerous jobs.
