Dong Nai province: having 175 cooperatives, co-operative unions and people’s credit funds

        Reportedly, there are now 175 cooperatives, co-operative unions and people’s credit funds with the total charter capital of VND228 billion and with the number of 34.000 cooperative members in the whole province. Cooperative groups with good performance accounting for 44%; cooperative groups with average results of activities 31% and ineffective ones 25%. In 2007 alone, the direction committee collaborated on newly building 25 cooperatives, transferring 5 markets to the cooperatives for management; and strengthening 13 cooperatives and dissolving 2 ones.

        The direction committee also proposed the targets of 2008 which are to newly establish 20 cooperatives and trading cooperative unions, and one people’s credit fund; transfer 5 markets to the cooperatives for management; strengthen 15 cooperatives and especially dissolve 10 ineffective ones. By 2008-end, the goal is to build 15-20 typically progressive cooperatives, raising the number of cooperative groups with good performance by 50%, 40% of cooperative groups with average results and reducing the number of ineffective ones by 10%.
