In the event “Connecting students with enterprises” recently held by Economic – Technical Vocational College 2 (under Vietnam General Confederation of Labor); over 600 students from the college excitedly joined and send a lot of questions to the enterprises. With the multidirectional discussion, the relationship between students and enterprises was improved.
Soft skill preparation for job search.
Most of the questions asked focusing on the soft skill. Student Ky Duyen –Hotel and Restaurant Faculty – asked: What skill do we need to find the job we wanted and earn enough income for our living after graduation?” Student Nguyen Van Cuong – Mechanic Faculty – asked: “We really hope the enterprises will support us with our internship, help us know more about the jobs and facilitate us after we graduate.” Student Ngoc Yen – Business Accounting, student Tran Tien Phuoc – Mechanical Cutting and many other students also concerned about the skills for job interviews.

Representative of Vikyno & Vinappro Company – Mr. Luu Tan Dat answered: “What you mentioned, we saw a lot in our job interviews. We do not only need your expertise, but your wide social knowledge, sincere and soft skills are also the priorities.”
Ms. Doan Bao Chau – HR, Nestle Vietnam Company highlighted that if there were two candidates which are equally excellent, the one with better communication skill, better behavior, better social skill and better colleague caring would be chosen. Mr. Pham Dong Tinh – Director of Toan Dac Loc Co. Ltd and Mr. Nguyen Huu Duc – Deputy Director of Hi-tech Labor Force Training and Supplying Center (Dong Nai Industrial Zones Management Department) also agreed with the idea. According to Mr. Pham Dong Tinh, in the age of integration, a good worker should not only good at expertise but also good at many other things such as communication skill, especially foreign language and IT to get the enterprises’ attention.
One factor that the graduated student need to concern about for their job interviews is the meticulousness especially in precision work. “I have always been careful in work recruitment and I also shared with my new worker training class in the company that precision and meticulousness in every detail is the characteristic of mechanism and machine technology, so that the customers will be satisfied with the products and the company’s reputation will rise”. Highlighted Mr. Luu Tan Dat – representative of Vikyno & Vinappro Company.
According to Mr. Pham Van Cong – Deputy Director of Department of Labor – Invalids Social Affair, nowadays, while there were a lot of students from professional colleges and universities could not find their jobs after graduation, those from vocational colleges easily could. In the first 6 months of 2016, enterprises registered to Department of Labor – Invalids Social Affair the recruitment for 30,000 skilled and college certificated workers but the local vocational colleges could only fulfill half the demand. This was also a good new to all vocational colleges’ students to continue their studying and training comfortably to have good jobs in the future.

Principle Nguyen Thanh Nhan shared that by understanding the labor market and the enterprises’ demand, in the recent years we have always cared about cooperating with the enterprises for the vocational training by inviting them to join the training and recruiting program. Especially some events were held between students and enterprises to help the enterprises to know more about the students and the students could have the chance to visit, have internship and be recruited in the enterprises. Thanks to that, 75% of the students in our college were employed right after graduation every year, while the rest continued to study for higher degree or looking for the jobs they wanted to.

Ms. Tran Bich Hanh – Head of Training Office of the College said, beside of connecting the enterprise, the college job center also held counselling events to support students in find jobs at local enterprises. Thus, the college was no longer encounter any difficulties in enrollment like before as in the last 2 years, more and more students had registered for vocational career. Currently, there were over 650 students studying vocational career in the college, not to mention the cooperation with other colleges and universities in the province to apply transition course to graduated students or workers who already had college degree; the cooperation had a huge contribution to the provincial labor force training.
At the event, Mr. Nguyen Minh Tuan – worker in Net Detergent Company (Bien Hoa IZ 2) – a former student in the college shared that he student in graduated from mechanical cutting faculty in September 2015, after graduation, he was recruited in Net Detergent Company with the current salary of over 10 million VND/month. What the teacher taught him and his internship in the enterprises were all essential for his career. “When you are still at college, you should try your best for your better future. How much you can learn, it depends on you. The college’s teaching program is by far completely practical.” Said Mr. Tuan and he is also planning to return the college for the university transition course within the Universities Cooperation Program.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Chien – another former student who is now director of a private enterprise shared: It has been 7 years since my graduation; all I had learned from my teachers, all my effort were all practical in my career. Minh Chien Services Company, which is the company I’m working at is being very well operated with the personnel of 30 people and the average salary of 6.5 million VND/person/month…”
According to the Head of the college, the Job Center and they are cooperating with over 100 enterprises in counseling, recruitment, vocational training and internship recommendation for students. This cooperation helps the college better understand the labor market to timely provide skilled labor force that the market needs.
