Perspective of Nhon Trach Bridge

More routes connecting Nhon Trach district with Ho Chi Minh City

On September 24, the Ministry of Transport officially started the construction of component 1A project, Tan Van - Nhon Trach section (phase 1) of the Ring Road 3 - HCMC project.

Component 1A project, with a length of more than 8km, extends from provincial road 25B to Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay highway. The first point intersects provincial road 25B in the territory of Nhon Trach district and the end point intersects with the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay highway in Thu Duc City (HCMC). In which, the section passing through the province has a length of 6.3km. This is the first part of the Ring Road 3 - HCMC. The project has a total investment of more than VND 6.9 trillion, including ODA loans from the Korean Government through the Korea Economic Development Cooperation Fund (EDCF) and reciprocal capital of the Vietnamese Government.

 
Mr. Tran Van Thi, Director of the My Thuan Project Management Board (the unit assigned as the project investor by the Ministry of Transport and Communications) said that the groundbreaking of component 1A project, section Tan Van - Nhon Trach (phase 1), a component of the Ring Road 3 - HCMC project is very important. In the immediate future, when the project is completed and put into operation, it will help connect Ho Chi Minh City (Dong Nai) with Thu Duc City (HCMC) to help reduce transportation time. In the long term, this is also a prerequisite step to help complete the entire Ring Road 3 - HCMC project. “The project is also a route that acts as a traffic connection for Long Thanh International Airport and will be completed at the same time as Long Thanh Airport phase 1, thereby reducing the load for Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay highway "- said Mr. Tran Van Thi.

For Dong Nai alone, the construction of component 1A project has ended the wait that has lasted for more than 10 years. At the same time, opening up new opportunities for local economic and social development, especially for the development of Nhon Trach new urban area.

Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Vo Tan Duc said, Nhon Trach is located adjacent to Ho Chi Minh City to the west through the system of Long Tau, Nha Be and Dong Nai rivers. This is an advantage, creating favorable conditions for the development of Nhon Trach district, but this is also a significant barrier in connecting traffic.
According to the general plan of Nhon Trach new urban area approved by the Prime Minister in 1996, Nhon Trach new urban area is planned to become one of the centers of industry, commerce, service and tourism, education, training and science and technology of Dong Nai province in particular and of the Southern Key Economic Zone in general. The development direction of Nhon Trach new urban area is to become a grade II urban area. However, after more than 20 years of construction and development due to difficulties in connecting external traffic, especially traffic connection with Ho Chi Minh City and other provinces in the Southern Key Economic Zone, up to now, Nhon Trach new urban area has not met the criteria of a grade II city, including the criterion of attracting people to live and work. “Therefore, project 1A, when put into operation, will form a new connection direction between Nhon Trach and Ho Chi Minh City and provinces in the Southern Key Economic Region. Creating great conditions for the development and turning Nhon Trach into a grade II city. At the same time, creating a premise for the formation and complete investment of the Ring Road 3 - HCMC project according to the planning"- Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Vo Tan Duc emphasized.

Increase connection, promote development

 The Southeast region includes 6 localities: Ho Chi Minh City and the provinces of Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Binh Duong, Binh Phuoc, Dong Nai, Tay Ninh. The region covers an area of more than 31,000 square kilometers, accounting for 9.4% of the country's area, with a population of more than 19 million, accounting for nearly 20% of the country's population. In addition, the region is also the largest industrial, seaport and logistics center in the country, handling 45% of the total volume of goods and over 60% of the volume of container cargo through the Vietnamese seaport system. Currently, 70% of the import and export goods of the Southwest region are through the seaports of Ho Chi Minh City and the seaports of the Southeast region. On the other hand, goods and passengers between the Southwest region and the Southeast region in particular and the whole country in general pass through Ho Chi Minh City and the provinces in the Southeast region.

However, the transport infrastructure system of Ho Chi Minh City in particular and the Southeast region in general is facing overload and lack of synchronous connectivity. Meanwhile, investment resources for transport infrastructure only achieve about 25% - 27% of the demand according to the approved plans. "This is one of the causes that directly affects and restrains economic growth in the Southeast region," said Deputy Minister of Transport Le Anh Tuan.

 Therefore, according to Deputy Minister Le Anh Tuan, the Party's guidelines, strategies and planning to 2030 and to 2050 of the whole country in general and transport industry in particular continue to identify the Southeast region as the top economic locomotive, industrial centers, seaports, airports and major logistics of the country. In which, one of the top priorities is to invest in new or upgrade national roads, radial highways, and ring roads to increase synchronous connectivity of transport infrastructure throughout the region.

Besides the component 1A project, the remaining sections of the Ring Road 3-HCMC project are also being accelerated by localities including: Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai, Binh Duong and Long An. As expected, this project will be started in June 2023 and will be basically completed in 2025.
Similarly, the two localities of Dong Nai and Ba Ria - Vung Tau and the Ministry of Transport also "racing". progress with the Bien Hoa - Vung Tau highway project phase 1 to be able to start the project in June 2023, and at the same time, ensure the basic goal of completing construction by 2025.

 In addition to the two major projects mentioned above, a series of transport infrastructure projects connecting the Southeast region such as Ring Road 4 - HCMC, bridges connecting Dong Nai with Binh Duong, Ba Ria - Vung Tau has also been and is being implemented.
