   According to agriculture reports, though all input materials price for agricultural production have been rising, the growth of province agriculture reached 5.6%. The whole cultivated-tree area remained over 300 thousand hectares and the productivity of main crops rose from 0.1 to 0.3 ton per hectare. There were 1.2 million pigs and over 5 million chickens and no disease spreading out.

To attain such above achievements, agriculture branch has examined and promulgated a high-tech process of fruit trees and long-term industrial crops; encouraging-agriculture centers, plant-protection branch, veterinary branch in collaboration with local areas have transferred to farmers such  technical progresses as treating unseasonable bearing flowers; fertilizing and taking care of industrial trees and long-term fruit trees with high-tech procedure; reducing poured water and increasing the effectiveness of using fertilizers; restraining pests; applying new varieties to crops, manuring reasonably, carrying out IPM program; sowing rice in orderly lines, applying ‘3 decrease & 3 increase technique’ and so on

Transferring from rice crops to vegetables ones effectively

Particularly, many farmers have brought some cross-bred and new kinds of rice in their crops, raising rice productivity to 6-9 tons per hectare, which is 2-2.5 times higher than normal kinds. Not only have farmers used such highly productive kinds as G49, NK54…, but they have also applied double-line technique in corn crops. As a result, they attained 10 tons per hectare. Many areas have got 9-10 tons per hectare in pepper crops; especially, some households have reached 11 tons per hectare

 In breeding, stock breeders have applied processes of closed enclosure with air ventilation systems, biogas waste treatment and carried out a thorough vaccination to prevent animal diseases. Animal husbandry has also widened highly effective models of raising such  bred fish as tilapia, hemibagrus, shrimp…,which suits environment. In 2008 the whole province changed rice crops into Winter and Spring corn ones that attained 332 hectares and vegetables ones that got 400 hectares. The changing has brought fairly good results.

Solutions for Agriculture Development in 2009

According to the leadership of Dong Nai Department of Agriculture and  Rural Development, agricultural product consumption will face up to difficulties resulting from market changes. Therefore, the need to apply high technology should be taken in production so as to reduce input expenses as well as guarantee quality safety with export criteria. In 2009 agriculture branch is going to concentrate on the 9 concretely - acting programs for developing crops, animals, irrigation, forestry, aquatic products, developing collective and farming economy…in which the key tasks are quickly changing rice crops to corn and cereal ones in Winter and Spring time, conducting the plans of approved main crops and immediately applying scientific and technological progress to production with high-tech procedure…

Hoa Loc mangoes are preferred

 Mr Pham Van Du, the deputy chief of Planting Department of Ministry of Agriculture and  Rural Development said that farming consumption in 2009 will not be as hard as predicted. The prices of some farming products have been increasing such as export price of milled rice in February 2009 was about US$100/ton higher, and domestic rice price was VND1,000/kg higher than before, too. Besides, prices of corn, pepper, coffee have been slightly increasing. However, to make sure that farmers can get benefit from their work, they all must apply technical improvements at the same time in order to reduce actual cost and increase productivity. Especially, although Dong Nai has strong position of fruit- trees, pepper and coffee, up to now there has not been a synchronous procedure of production yet, causing risks of unsanitary conditions. Therefore, according to him, the achievements attained by Dong Nai have not been proportioned to its strong position. Therefore, from now on, Dong Nai should much more concentrate on applying scientific and technological achievements in producing because both domestic and foreign markets need safe products with clear origins. Especially,  GlobalGAP procedure must be taken for exported fruits.
