AGRI-FOS 400 is expected by pepper cultivator

We arrive to Mrs. Bui Thi Que’s 2.5 hectare- pepper garden in Village 4, Lam San Commune (Cam My District) where has to two thirds of pepper garden died, and the last one third is still alive due to a kind of pesticide. Mrs. Hue’s pepper garden has begun withered from 2005 and she bought a lot of kind of pesticide to treat but without any falling. To July of 2006, affection is appeared on over the whole area of garden. At that moment, Dona Techno Biotechnological Development Company suggested her for trying to treat 30 pepper stumps by a kind of pesticide that used to treat sap leaking on durian trees. After 20 days of treatment, pepper trees have not been withered but tend to recover. After the period of sample, Mrs. Hue contacts to this company to buy pesticide for treating her pepper garden. However, Mrs. Hue regrets at this moment, her garden died over two thirds, if she had used pesticide earlier than 2 months, her garden would not have damaged seriously. Now the last area of hers recovers and develops normally. 

The kind of pesticide which Mrs. Hue used to recover a part of her garden is AGRI-FOS 400 imported by Dona Techno Company from Australia. Mr. Nguyen Phu Cuong- director of the company said this is a kind of pesticide used to treat sap leaking on Dona durian trees that have been invested by the company for farmers. Before the company is not interested in pepper because his company doesn’t invest to develop this kind of tree, but recognizing situations of withered pepper much and noticing reasons of Phytophthora mould affection on newspapers, he thought they could use this kind of pesticide to treat affection for pepper because of the same fungus, they conducted to test and got effectiveness.

However, because the pesticide has just been registered by Dona Techno to Bureau of Plant Conservation for treating sap leaking on fruit trees, it has not been listed in treatment of quickly withered pepper affection. This obstacle causes many pepper cultivators not dare to treat as sample of this pesticide.

In fact, confront to situations of withered pepper massively, some provinces which have a large area of pepper and died much overcame “obstacle” to implement samples of treatment by this pesticide through Dona Techno, there consisted of many places used effectively this treatment such as: Bureau of Plant Conversation in Quang Tri, Encouraging Agricultural Station of Chu Se District- Dac Lac Province… At the end of 2005, when the areas of some districts: Cam Lo, Gio Linh, Vinh Linh, Huong Hoa (Quang Tri) were spread by quickly withered affection, Bureau of Plant Conversation in Quang Tri conducted samples of treatment with this pesticide in 15 pepper cultivating households in Tan Liem Commune- Huong Hoa District. To December of 2006, using AGRI-FOS 400 showed effectively in prevention of withered pepper, they encouraged farmers in using this pesticide to prevent affection. At the beginning of 2006, Encouraging Agricultural Station of Chu Se District also tested AGRI-FOS 400 on some Libang pepper gardens and showed effectively in prevention of withered pepper, moreover Encouraging Agricultural Station of Chu Se District also offers Dona Techno Company to cooperate to do some more samples of treatment in this year so that they can evaluate exactly effect of pesticide in both rainy and sunny seasons.

Mr. Tran Kim Son- Deputy Head of Financial Bureau of Cam My District said his district is also offering Dona Techno Company to conduct some more samples of treatment in this rainy season to get exact result for encouraging farmer’s application and this has been approved by the company.

According to Dona Techno’ calculation, it costs about 6.000 VNd of AGRI-FOS 400 for treating on leaves and spraying on roofs in 4 times on every stump. When pepper is affected, time for treatment is also quite fast, just finish treatment within 20-30 days and use 3 times of pesticide.

If samples of treatment by AGRI-FOS 400 of Dona Techno Company still ensures effectively in preventing this affection in this rainy season, it will be a great happiness for pepper cultivator inside and outside province.
