More processing lines to increase export output
In early September, Koyu & Unitek's first processed chicken container for export departed from Long An port to Japan. Nearly two months later, the company exported four containers of about 100 tonnes of processed chicken to the market.
Mr. Jame Khieu Nhon Hieu, General Director of Koyu & Unitek Company, said that the first shipment of Japanese consumers was highly appreciated Japanese consumer. Many Japanese customers who previously imported chicken from Thailand now intend to switch to Vietnam. Mr. Hieu said that the Koyu & Unitek Company has set itself a goal to put chickens into supermarkets in Japan, but by now, due to the insufficient quantity of chickens in Vietnam, they are only being distributed into the restaurant and hotel systems in japan.

According to Mr. Jame Khieu Nhon Hieu, Koyu & Unitek Company currently has a processing plant with the capacity of 350 tons / month. However, previously, because only 1 production line was put into operation, the processing capacity of the company was about 100 tons of chicken per month. According to the plan, by mid-2018, the company will have finished adding the second and third processing lines to put them into operation. However, with optimistic signals from the first export shipment, the enterprise is speeding up completing two processing lines to increase the capacity of the plant. Accordingly, in November, the Japanese Veterinary Agency will come to Dong Nai to conduct relevant surveys and evaluations to license the second and third processing line with a capacity of 200 tons of products per month. At the beginning of January -2018 at the latest, Koyu & Unitek Vietnam will operate all three lines, increasing the total capacity to 300 tons / month. "Previously, we anticipate to reach the full capacity of the plant by mid-2018, but it can be put into operation even sooner," said Mr. Jame Khieu Nhon Hieu.
In addition to urgently bringing two new lines into operation, Mr. Hieu added that according to the plan in early 2018, the company will build a new factory with the capacity of 550 tons / month. By 2019, when the new factory is completed, every month the company will be able to export 1,000 tons of processed chicken to Japan. In the coming years, depending on market demand, Koyu & Unitek will set up suitable strategies. Apart from Japan, the enterprise is studying to expand export markets to Southeast Asian countries.
Expand the supply of raw materials
In addition to accelerating the expansion of the factory, Koyu & Unitek has decided to increase its chicken production capacity in some farms to meet the demand for raw chicken for processing. In the past, Koyu & Unitek Company has signed contracts to ensure consumption for the farmers. So far, each month, the farms provide about 500,000 commercial chickens. Due to the expansion of the factory, the company is expanding its business with farmers, aimed at increasing the number of commercial chickens to 1.3 million per month.
Mr. Nguyen Minh Kha, owner a farm supplying chickens for materials to Koyu & Unitek in Tan Phu district, said that the company used to collect about 10,000 chickens, but now they have raised the farm’s capacity to 13,000 - 15,000 chickens. In addition, Koyu & Unitek has increased the number of coops from 28 to 36 units (average 20,000/one). "In the near future, the number of chickens provided to the company will increase by about 20% and possibly increase higher in the future," Mr. Kha said.
Currently, beside Mr. Kha’s farm, Koyu & Unitek Company is also preparing to sign a contract to purchase materials from a household in Long Thanh district. This is also a farm officially approved by the Japanese Veterinary Medical Standard Export.
According to Mr. Jame Khieu Nhon Hieu, Koyu & Unitek Company mainly focuses on processing rather than the development of breeding and facilities, so to ensure the source of raw materials, enterprises will cooperate with other companies. Koyu & Unitek is aiming at the chicken supply chain of De Heus Co., Lt.d (from Netherlands).
Initially, Koyu & Unitek also signed a contract to produce 6 chicken coops of Mr. Nguyen Van Ngoc, a chicken farm owner in Vinh Cuu district belonging to the chicken production chain of De Heus Co., Ltd. "With the huge demand for chickens in the Japanese market, the company claims to consume all raw materials from facilities meeting the requirements," said Jame Khieu Nhon Hieu.
In order to have a clean source of raw chickens meeting the stringent standards of hygiene and food safety of the Japanese market, within the association with the farmers, Koyu & Unitek will send provide on-site support in farming technique and facilities. In the meantime, it is strictly forbidden to use any kinds of flu vaccine except for some antibiotics as directed.
