Provincial Party Committee an People’s Committee Work with Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs to Boost Poverty Reduction

    According  to report by Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs the implementation of poverty reduction program in the period III (2006-2010) has gained remarkable achievements with a decrease of 14,113/8,000 poor households, making up 176% of target for the last two years. Earlier this year, there are still 27,613 poor households occupying 6.15% of total population in the province in which certain districts such as Vinh Cuu, Trang Bom, Cam My, Xuan Loc, Dinh Quan and Tan Phu are in circumstance of  high rate of poor households. However, Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong, director of Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs said that the implementation of the program did not somewhere perform well; many inferior units relied much on the upper. Especially the poor partially did not raise their efforts to eliminate their own poverty but relied on authorities and community. Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Tran Dinh Thanh, Secretary of Provincial Party Committee suggested that propaganda for people’s awareness improvement should be enhanced and result evaluation should be carried out via supervising activities in the coming time. Relevant staffs should be divided into specific responsibility. Moreover, the steering committee should urge relevant bodies to detect and implement all backward programs and projects. It is good to set a model of sustainable poverty elimination.

    It is known that the target until 2010 is to reduce at 26,000/27,612 poor households, down as low as 10%.
