Outstanding Achievements Obtained in the Building of Labor Unions and in Emulation Movements in Dong Nai Labor Union

*Hundreds of grassroots labor unions

Chairperson of Dong Nai Labor Federation Huynh Tan Kiet said that one of the most outstanding achievements of Dong Nai labor union in its half term of implementation of the resolutions of the 10th Congress of Vietnam Labor Union was to increase the number of labor union members.

To increase the number of labor union members and build strong grassroots labor unions, levels of labor unions are required to focus on reforms and changes made to operational methods.

Over the past half term, 181,525 labor union members have been admitted, accounting for 121.02 percent compared with Labor Confederation’s targets

However, 98,485 members have left labor unions due to the fact that their businesses closed down.

Regarding the development of new grassroots labor unions, every year 100 grassroots labor unions are established, bringing the total number of grassroots labor unions in the province to 2,394 ones with 432,126 members out of 504.053 workers, civil servants, and laborers, accounting for 85, 73 percent.

Labor unions and Dong Nai Labor Federation have paid great attention to the development, strengthening, and organization of grassroots labor unions, especially grassroots labor unions in non-state companies to improve operational quality and to put forward such solutions as offering professional skill training classes to labor union officers and assisting grassroots labor unions in fully grasping the situation and workers’ aspirations and in strengthening operations.

Labor unions in many foreign-invested companies have gradually improved operational quality and organized various activities, which have attracted the participation of a large number of workers and labor union members and built trust among employees and employers.

Grassroots labor unions are receiving awards

In addition, levels of labor unions have offered 303 professional skill training classes to 16,992 grassroots labor union officers and many others to equip them with knowledge on labor protection and labor union affairs.

Levels of labor unions have focused on the development of Party organs and Party members in companies and nominated 12,232 officers and union members to the Party, exceeding 12.2 percent compared with the Resolution.

Thereby, 4,439 workers, civil servants, and laborers are admitted to the Party.

* Enhancing emulation movements

One of the most outstanding achievements of labor unions over the past half term is to maintain and launch emulation movements among workers, civil servants, and laborers.

Patriotic emulation movements every year among workers, civil servants, and laborers have not only changed for the better in state-owned companies but exerted a widespread impact on foreign-invested companies.

Through emulation movements, workers, civil servants, and laborers of sectors and agencies have carried out 21 projects to welcome the anniversary of Foundation of Vietnam Labor Federation and major holidays during the year.

These projects are worth VND97 billion. VND25 billion have been saved and more than 4,500 technologically advanced products have been created.

More than 600 scientific research projects in the field of education, health care, and others have been implemented.

In patriotic movements over the past half term, there have been 431 collectives and 537 individuals at levels of labor unions were awarded certificates of merit and emulation flags by the government, Vietnam Labor Federation, Dong Nai People's Committee, and Dong Nai Labor Union.

In addition, among Dong Nai’s workers, civil servants, and laborers, 92 collectives and 110 individuals with outstanding achievements in 2005-2009 movement were honored at the 3rd model meeting.

It can be seen that over two years of implementation of the resolutions of the 10th Congress of Vietnam Labor Federation and of the 8th Congress of Dong Nai Labor Union, labor union activities have changed for the better since the beginning of the term on the basis of the action programs to implement the Executive Committee at Dong Nai Labor Federation’s resolutions.

Levels of labor unions have taken initiative to complete targets and promote propaganda programs on the contents of the resolution among workers, civil servants, and laborers.

Besides, it is necessary to always adhere to the directions of levels of Party committees and labor unions and to cooperate with functional agencies in promptly dealing with laborers’ recommendations as well as handling strikes effectively to quickly stabilize production activities.

To promote the development of emulation movements among workers, civil servants, and laborers, levels of labor unions are required to organize and maintain activities concerning culture, art, sports, free legal consultation, social work, and care for poor laborers on holidays and New Year holidays.

Levels of labor unions in the province, through practical policies, guidelines and programs associated with workers’ lives, have gradually built trust among and brought excitement to labor union members, civil servants, and laborers, thereby contributing to stabilizing production activities and to obtaining achievements in the province’s socio-economic development.
