That Dong Nai provincial People’s Committee formally signed an agreement on the cooperative program for developing its agricultural economy with the region of Bretagne March 16 has received a lot of attention of the media, organizations and businesses in Dong Nai in recent days. On the agenda of March 18, the provincial People’s Committee and the mission of Bretagne authorities and businesses held a press conference to provide information on what has been done for those who are interested in it. On this occasion, we had an interview with Mr Dinh Quoc Thai – Vice chairman of Dong Nai provincial People’s Committee and Mr Jean Yves Le Drian – President of the region of Bretagne on the matters that revolved the cooperation between both sides.

*Reporter: President of the region of Bretagnet! At first, I would like to ask you a question. Why do you choose Dong Nai as a place to develop the project but not another place in Vietnam?
*Mr Drian: We realize that cooperation is the will of Dong Nai leadership and the strategic partner, Donataba. Before this agreement was signed, Secretary of Dong Nai provincial Party Committee had visited Bretagne and really appreciated agricultural development projects here.
*Reporter: What features do you think Dong Nai and the region of Bretagne share? Why do you choose Dong Nai whereas France and Europe are aiming for China as the most potential part in Asia?
*Mr Drian: In reality, all European businesses are aiming for China and Chinese government has met with many missions who went to China to make a survey. China has a huge market and we are one of many missions to China but we have very good relations and the greatest empathy in Vietnam. In addition, Vietnam’s development potential is greater and more equal than China’s. In comparison with China, you have a steady growth, environmental awareness and a balance between the life of people in the cities and rural areas.
*Reporter: Have you been satisfied with the memorandum between both sides until now?
*Mr Drian: We totally agree with the clauses in the memorandum. We are satisfied. There is a clause about pig keeping in the memorandum. It is an original memorandum. It not only sets up the cooperation between two companies but also builds a cultural exchange relation and creates new prospects for food safety and hygiene. We expect that we will be a big partner of Vietnam.
*Reporter: Thanks a lot for your answer, Mr Drian. Vice chairman of Dong Nai provincial People’s Committee! I would like to give you a question. The point on the cooperative program we are very concerned about is whether people will leave “neither agriculture nor their home village”. So could you please tell us whether people have to move out of the planned area or continue to live there after Agro – Park project is carried out?
*Mr Thai: We can say this is a very humanitarian viewpoint. This viewpoint becomes concrete when investors present their project plans. However, we need to understand that leaving one’s home village does not mean moving out of or staying there because we will have a resettlement planning and build a residential area for farmers. There will be an area of 25 hectares which is arranged for manufacturing households here and places for people’s residence to suit the established project. We once visited the region of Bretagne and appreciated its very successful labor relations.
*Mr Drian: I would like to add that the production method in this region is to give farmers all work. Financial groups do not control it. From producing to processing stages are finished by farmers. This creates a stability and intensive understanding in Vietnam.
*Reporter: So, could you please tell us when farmers can take part in the project as those who directly make one product by using a new method?
In two months’ time, we will set up a roadmap to carry out the project. Particularly, Bretagne farmers will talk with Vietnamese farmers about their production experience. At first, there are such meetings only but this also shows the top quality as we have done.
