Removing Obstacles for Long Thanh Waterline Project

​(News Portal – Dong Nai) - On the morning of July 5, Acting Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Vo Tan Duc, chaired a working session with Binh Duong Water - Environment Corporation - Joint Stock Company, Dong Nai Water Joint Stock Company, and various departments, sectors, and localities regarding the Long Thanh Waterline project.

The investment objective for the backbone water supply axis is to ensure readiness to supply and support any water supply system within the province; to be ready to connect water supply networks for rural areas in the province. It aims to timely meet the water demand for urban, rural areas, and industrial, service, and tourism zones in Long Thanh, Cam My districts, and surrounding areas in Dong Nai province. The project is expected to require more than 12 hectares of land across three areas: Bien Hoa city, Vinh Cuu district, and Long Thanh district. The project includes components such as water intake structures, raw water reservoirs, and water treatment plants; booster pump stations and water transmission lines built along existing transportation corridors, with a total length of nearly 53 km. The booster pump stations will have a completed capacity of 600,000 m³/day-night, with phase 1 having a capacity of 150,000 m³/day-night. The total investment is projected to be over VND 5.5 trillion, with phase 1 costing more than VND 3.9 trillion. The project preparation period is from 2024 to 2027, with project implementation from 2027 to 2030.​

The difficulties of the project include some planning aspects that are not yet suitable for investment approval, such as water supply planning, construction planning, and traffic planning. The investor unit requested that to ensure the project's revenue, Dong Nai province should not expand or upgrade the capacity of existing water plants; support the investor in obtaining loans from the Investment Fund as this is a strategic, breakthrough water supply project that creates momentum to support the development of social and economic infrastructure in the province.

Acting Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Vo Tan Duc emphasized that the goal of the Long Thanh Waterline project is to provide water for production and daily activities in localities, especially in Long Thanh district. The investor should further study the large water demand of industrial zones as well as new residential areas associated with the Long Thanh airport project.

The challenges and obstacles should be reviewed by the investor in coordination with localities and relevant departments to find appropriate solutions; particularly, the main transmission and distribution directions should be studied to avoid zigzagging water routes that do not fit various planning types. The investor also needs to work specifically with localities to survey and calculate water usage demand, scale, and area to ensure the project's feasibility in terms of land-saving. On this basis, the investor should complete the documentation to ensure strictness, synchronization, and high feasibility to submit to the Provincial People's Committee for review and approval of investment project information, serving as a basis to invite interested investors and organize bidding according to regulations in September 2024.
