Intellectual property is important for individuals and businesses

​The theme of Intellectual Property Day 2023 chosen by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) is "Women with Intellectual Property - Promoting innovation and creativity". Vice Chairwoman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thi Hoang commented on this issue:

For generations, women have shaped our world with ingenuity and creativity. However, the reality shows that there are too few women participating in the intellectual property (IP) system. That means there is too few women enjoyed benefits from IP. Therefore, the World Intellectual Property Organization has chosen the theme "Women with Intellectual Property - Promoting innovation and creativity" to encourage more women to participate in the IP system to protect and increase the value of intellectual property value for their works.

With the advantage of being an industrial province and one of the key economic regions in the South, Dong Nai province has been determining that IP plays a decisive role in the success and sustainable development of enterprises in business, production activities, affirming the enterprise's brand in the market.

In 2022, the whole province of Dong Nai had 17 patent applications, 32 industrial design applications and nearly 1.2 thousand trademark registration applications. Accumulated from 2020 until now, the province has had 78 patent applications, 97 industrial design applications, nearly 3.3 thousand trademark registration applications, even though the province has been heavily affected by the Covid-19 epidemic.

Particularly in the agricultural sector, the province has supported the registration of more than 95 trademarks such as: Phu Ly mangos, Xuan Dinh durians, Bao Hoa rambutans, Ba Dau green-skinned grape fruits, Hiep Van bitter melons, and lotus processed products from Truong Phat Cooperative…

In terms of scientific research activities, there are 19/63 Science and Technology projects under female writters, accounting for 30%. For Creative Innovation activities, there are 9/22 Creative Innovation Start-up projects achieving provincial prizes started by women, accounting for 40%.

Provincial leaders realize that the results are still limited compared to the socio-economic development potential of the locality and the region. Therefore, the science and technology sector needs to try to actively coordinate with other sectors and localities to promote IP activities.

​Honoring women who have contributed to IPR work in the province in the past time

Any product that attracts customers is susceptible to competitors producing the same or similar products. Therefore, the registration of IP in general and the registration of trademarks in particular play an important role in protecting the intellectual property of their units and other benefits for businesses and society.

Specifically, for owners of property rights, the protection of IP rights will encourage the creativity, promote their efforts and dedication to research activities. Improve technology, create good products. At the same time, contribute to minimize losses, promote the development of legal production and business. Thanks to IP rights, businesses will not have to face economic losses due to the "appropriate" behavior of competitors.

If IPR is not protected, the market will be flooded with fake and poor quality products, seriously affecting both reputation and revenue for entities producing and trading quality products with an intellectual investment in the products. Besides, the protection of IP rights gives consumers opportunities to choose high-quality goods and services to meet their needs.

On the other hand, effective IP rights protection will create a healthy competitive environment, which is a driving force for economic growth. The IP law is against all acts of using identical or similar signs to the trademark being protected as well as unauthorized use of protected confidential information.

An individual or an organization has to spend a long time to be able to produce a product with its own brand. They have to invest for many years, and it can spend a lot of research and development costs to transfer a product to hands of consumers. Thanks to IP protection, businesses will build brand reputation, known and trusted by many people.

Our country's legal corridor for IP issues has basically been consolidated and regularly reviewed, supplemented and amended in accordance with the common standards of the world. In order to orient the operations of the IP system in the coming period, the Government has issued the Intellectual Property Strategy to 2030.

On that basis, the Provincial People's Committee issued Plan No. 13150/KH-UBND dated October 30, 2020 on the implementation of the IP Strategy to 2030 of Dong Nai Province and Decision No. 728/QD-UBND dated April 12 -2023 on organizing the implementation of Resolution No. 30/2022/NQ-HDND dated December 10, 2022 stipulating the spending content and level of expenditure to perform the task of supporting enterprises in developing intellectual property by 2030 in Dong Nai province with the key tasks of completing the support process according to Resolution 30, promptly supporting registration units for intellectual property protection, especially potential key agricultural products ability to export, propagate widely among all classes of people about the role of intellectual property protection in the current integration environment.

At the same time, it is necessary to quickly implement Resolution 29 on the stipulating spending content and level of spending for the implementation of the project "Supporting the national innovation startup ecosystem until 2025" in Dong Nai province for potential innovative startup ideas, models and projects.​
