Among them, Thong Nhat District is the largest flower growing area in the province. Faced with farmers' difficulties, the Thong Nhat District Farmers' Association has issued many support activities, especially market connections for floriculturists.

Weak purchasing power

Dong Nai has many areas specializing in growing flowers specifically for Tet with an area of dozens of hectares. Among them, the most concentrated are in the communes of Quang Trung, Gia Tan 3 (Thong Nhat District), Xuan Truong commune (Xuan Loc district)... Compared to other types of crops, growing Tet flowers is often economically effective. Every year, starting from the New Year, traders and flower traders inside and outside the province flock to flower farms to deposit hundreds of millions of Vietnamese Dong in advance to farmers to ensure there is a source of flowers to supply to the Tet market. Floriculturists have both the capital to pay for labor and peace of mind because they do not worry about the output of their products.

But this year, even when the Tet market is at its peak, many gardeners are still waiting for buyers.

Many floriculturists in Phuc Nhac and Gia Tan 3 communes are worried. This year, the economic situation is predicted to be difficult compared to the same period last year. Even though difficulties were predicted, they were still surprised because it was close to Tet yet there are no buyers, while at the same time last year, traders flocked to see flowers and order flowers. According to gardeners, the flower consumption market has never been as slow as this year. Even in the year of the Covid-19 epidemic, due to the impact of the epidemic, there were no pots or materials to make flowers, so that year's Tet flower prices still skyrocketed due to a sharp decrease in supply. Currently, flower farmers are sitting on fire because so much capital has been poured into investment without knowing what the purchasing power will be like in the market.

This is also a common difficulty in the largest flower growing area in the hamlets of Trung Son, Trung Tin, Trung Nghia of Xuan Truong commune, Xuan Loc district. This year's economic is forecasted continuing to face difficulties, so many gardeners in this region are reducing their flower growing areas. This year's Tet season, gladiolus is still the main flower grown, in addition, some gardeners have planted marigolds, lilies... which will provide abundant flower sources supply to the market. Because they are mainly cut flowers, it will be close to Tet to know the purchasing power of the market, but flower farmers are also very worried that economic difficulties will affect consumption because people will tighten their spending.

Reduce prices to stimulate demand
Investment costs for this year's Tet flower crop from pots, fertilizer, medicine, labor... are all higher than last year. Worried about the sluggish consumer market, many flower farmers actively reduce selling prices hoping to stimulate purchasing power.

Flower farmers in Gia Tan 3 commune said that last year, since New Year's, gardeners had 100 million in deposits from traders to pay for hiring labor to take care of flowers. This year is at peak consumption but they still don't know what the market will turn out. This year's flower supply is quite abundant because the flowers are in good season and of good quality. Investment costs for this year's flower crop are higher than every year but the output market is forecast to be more difficult, many gardeners proactively reduce flower prices early with a reduction of 10-15% to stimulate purchasing power.

Some flower farmers in Phuc Nhac hamlet, Gia Tan 3 commune said that last year purchasing power was quite slow, so this year's Tet season, many gardeners reduced the number of flower pots. Because purchasing power is weak, gardeners are forced to reduce flower prices early in the hope of attracting buyers.
