Dong Nai is in the top of the country in planting green trees in rural areas

​Dong Nai leads the country in mobilizing social resources to successfully implement the Prime Minister's goal of planting 1 billion green trees in association with the construction of new rural areas. Specifically, the province's goal is to plant 20 million green trees in the period 2021-2025 with a total estimated resource of 607 billion VND with 70% is the capital from socialization.​

As a result, in 2022 alone, the province mobilized about 109 billion VND for implementation; in which socialization source was about 66%. After 2 years of implementation, the whole province planted nearly 6.8 million kinds of green trees, reaching 34% of the 5-year plan target.

Exceeding the plan

At the preliminary conference on forestry work in 2022, Mr. Le Viet Dung, Deputy Director of the Department of Forest Protection reported that the forest cover rate in the province reach more than 29% in 2022, ensuring the target according to Decree of the Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial People's Council was more than 28%. The work of forest use and development was focused on implementation such as: continuing to zoning and regenerating forests with an area of 443 hectares, taking care of forests of 3.5 thousand hectares; planting 3.3 thousand hectares of forest trees. In particular, planting over 5 million trees of all kinds, reaching 112.4% of the plan. In which, organizing the launching ceremony of "Tet of planting trees in gratitude to Uncle Ho forever" and responding to the Program on planting one billion green trees "For a green Vietnam" of the Prime Minister in the province attracting the whole political system in participation.

 Dinh Quan district was one of the localities with good results in planting trees in the rural areas. In 2022, communes, towns and agencies in the district registered to plant nearly 109.4 thousand green trees from the source of seedlings granted by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development. This amount of green trees planted in many places such as: cultural houses, office areas, treaffic roads, school campuses...

 According to Mr. Ngo Tan Tai, Deputy Chairman of the People's Committee of Dinh Quan district, thanks to the source of good quality seedlings and the early planting of trees at the beginning of the rainy season are favorable conditions for achieving survival and growth rate and stable growth over 90% of the trees. The high value is also in the fact that the plants grown are large native trees, perennials, multi-purpose plants, suitable for each locality such as: Hopea, Dipterocarpus alatus, Lagerstroemia speciosa, Khaya senegalensis, Tectona grandis, Aquilaria Crassna Pirre....

 In addition to the number of tree supplied by superior, people in the district have planted nearly 349.5 thousand new trees of all kinds including industrial and fruit trees. The achieved results have contributed to the successful implementation of the "project of planting 1 billion green trees in the period of 2021-2025" of the whole country.

Good mobilization of socialization resource

 From the achieved results in 2022, Dong Nai province continues to set high goals in planting green trees as well as increasing the forest cover rate in the province in 2023.

 Accordingly, right from the beginning of 2023, the Provincial People's Committee issued a plan to plant green trees in 2023 according to the "Project on planting a billion green trees in the period of 2021-2025" of the Prime Minister in Dong Nai province. The goal of growing more than 4.6 million green trees in which planting about 2.64 million forest trees including concentrated crops and scattered trees and about 2 million other trees including fruit trees, industrial plants, urban trees, etc., grown on agricultural and non-agricultural land.

 According to the plan of the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, in 2023, the total number of forestry seedlings to support localities and units is more than 1.3 million trees. Of which, about 990 thousand trees are acacia hybrids; the rest are large tree varieties planted scatteredly with nearly 348.3 thousand trees including 12 kinds of trees: Hopea odorata, Dipterocarpus alatus, Afzelia xylocarpa, Pterocarpus macrocarpus, Chukrasia velutina, Dalbergia tonkinensis, Khaya senegalensis, Aquilaria crassna, Tectona grandis  ... Total costs of more than 7 billion VND including many sources such as: 3.6 billion VND from the provincial budget; 1.5 billion VND from the provincial Forest Protection and Development Fund; 1,5 billion VND from source of Dong Nai Environmental Protection Fund; 550 million VND from source of businesses supporting the program to the Provincial Forest Protection and Development Fund.

 Investment capital for the program on planting green trees in rural areas, localities and units balance own budgets and integrate programs and projects which is mainly mobilized from socialization source. Specifically in 2023, organizations and households are expected to invest nearly 81 billion VND in afforestation and planting green trees such as planting acacia hybrid forest, industrial and fruit trees.

 Mr. Hoang Cong Phuoc, Director of Doc Mo Tourism Cooperative (Thong Nhat District) shared that participating in the program of planting rural trees in 2023, the cooperative registered and it was expected to be supported with 1,000 seedlings to plant at the farm. This was a very meaningful activity because not only contributed to the protection of the general environment in the countryside, but the planting of green strips surrounding the farm also contributed to create a safe corridor to protect the environment for the organic production area of the cooperative.

 Mr. Le Van Goi, Deputy Director of the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development commented that in order to achieve the goal of planting trees in 2023, it was necessary to involve the whole political system including agencies, organizations, households and individuals. The planting of green trees had really become a practical and effective emulation movement of all levels, branches, in each residential area with the voluntary and active participation of all people. The resource had the attraction and active participation of all economic sectors and integrates socio-economic development programs, target programs for sustainable forestry development, new rural construction programs. The responsibility for caring, managing, protecting and ensuring that planted green trees belonged to the subjects that must have a specific and clear manager, ensuring a high survival rate and stable development.
