This upgrading marks not only an administrative milestone but also fuels expectations for a new, dynamic, and modern urban landscape in the near future.

Residents’ excitement ahead of the upgrade

“Upon hearing the news that Dau Giay Commune is about to become a ward, the people are very excited. Since the merger, the commune Party committee, authorities, and the Fatherland Front have paid close attention to people’s livelihoods. We hope that, once upgraded to ward status, the locality will continue to attract investment, develop more comprehensively, and further improve living standards,” said Nguyen Hai Duong, Party Cell Secretary and Head of the Front Working Committee of Lap Thanh hamlet.

Public confidence reflects that the upgrade is not merely an administrative change but opens up a new development phase for the locality.
Dau Giay commune, established through the merger of the former Dau Giay township and the communes of Bau Ham 2, Lo 25, and Hung Loc, officially came into operation on July 1, 2025.
Under the proposal to establish the province’s 10 wards, including Dau Giay commune, the locality is situated in southern Dong Nai and enjoys a strategic location with direct connectivity to key urban centers in the province, while also maintaining strong links to Ho Chi Minh City and the Long Thanh International Airport area. In addition, Dau Giay lies along major transport corridors such as National Highway 1, National Highway 20, and several expressways - creating favorable conditions for urban development, multi-sector industrial growth, and logistics services.

The area has already benefited from partial investment aligned with urban development planning, with a relatively well-established system of economic, technical, and social infrastructure. Under Dong Nai’s urban development orientation, the former Dau Giay township is classified as a tier-5 urban area, with plans to be upgraded to tier-4 urban area by 2030. Meanwhile, Hung Loc, Bau Ham 2, and Lo 25 communes have all met advanced new-style rural standards, laying a solid foundation for synchronized urbanization. In addition, under the national urban classification framework, the former Dau Giay township area is identified as a tier-3 urban area. In addition, the provincial development planning also designates Dau Giay as an area to develop according to urban criteria and within a concentrated urban cluster.
Mai Van Hien, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the People’s Committee of Dau Giay Commune, noted that under current regulations, the locality has largely met the criteria required for ward establishment. According to him, Dau Giay possesses several key advantages - most notably its strategic location and well-connected transport network, providing strong potential for the development of industry, commerce, services, and logistics. The locality also has over 3,000 hectares of public land - much of it currently leased by the State - offering significant room for future planning and expansion. In addition, Dau Giay benefits from a relatively synchronized technical and social infrastructure system. Once the center of the former Thong Nhat district, it continues to inherit a well-established network of administrative offices, working facilities, and cultural institutions, alongside access to national- level infrastructure projects.
Hien stressed that in the coming time, to achieve sustainable and breakthrough growth, the locality will accelerate urban planning with the goal of attaining a tier-3 urban area. The commune is currently coordinating with consultants under the Ministry of Construction to finalize the detailed plan, which is expected to be submitted to the Provincial People’s Committee in the near future as a basis for implementing development programs and projects. Based on this foundation, Dau Giay will prioritize investment in technical and social infrastructure aligned with urban standards, expand its transport network, enhance service quality, and intensify investment attraction. The 330-hectare Dau Giay Industrial Park is currently fully occupied and is planned for expansion by an additional 145 hectares.
Several key projects have also been planned, including a 180-hectare logistics zone near Long Thanh Airport, a 75-hectare industrial cluster, a 100-hectare southern urban area, and the second phase of an agricultural and food wholesale market. Additionally, large-scale tourism and commercial service zones have already had their adjusted planning approved.
The Chairman of the Dau Giay Commune People’s Committee affirmed that, building on its existing advantages and clear development orientation, the locality will, in the coming period, maximize available resources and promote development in the direction of industry– commerce–services. At the same time, agriculture will be gradually restructured toward higher quality and sustainability. In parallel, the commune will accelerate administrative reform, advance digital transformation, and continue to improve the living standards of its residents.

An opportunity for local development

Alongside government preparations, residents across the locality have demonstrated strong confidence and a shared commitment to development.
Nguyen Thanh Phuoc, a farmer in Hung Hiep hamlet, shared, “When we heard that Dau Giay is preparing to become a ward, people were very excited. This presents an opportunity for stronger local development and improved living standards. For farmers, we hope to leverage opportunities from Long Thanh Airport to expand markets for agricultural products, aiming for more stable and sustainable incomes.” According to Phuoc, local authorities have been guiding farmers toward safer production practices, gradually transitioning to organic agriculture, while forming cooperative groups and cooperatives to increase connectivity and proactivity in finding outlets.

Le Thi Huu Nhan, Vice Chairwoman of the Lap Thanh Hamlet Women’s Union, expressed her expectation that ward status will bring improved living conditions, more convenient business opportunities, and more spacious and modern infrastructure. “We will continue to actively participate in community movements and contribute to building a more developed locality,” she said.

Dau Giay commune currently covers 98.87 square kilometers and has a population of over 70,000. As preparations for ward status progress, a sense of optimism is spreading throughout the community, with expectations for comprehensive development, improved living standards, and an increasingly modern urban landscape.

From a youth perspective, Vu Hoang Hai, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee and Secretary of the Youth Union of the commune, noted that becoming a ward is both a source of pride and responsibility. Local youth will continue to uphold a spirit of initiative and volunteerism, contributing to the development of a civilized and modern urban area while constantly learning and training to make meaningful contributions to their hometown.
It is clear that residents share a common confidence and expectation for a new phase of development. This also serves as an essential foundation for Dau Giay not only to achieve ward status but also to evolve into a dynamic and modern urban area in the near future.
