Benefits of becoming a science and technology enterprise

​(CTT-Đong Nai) – It is estimated that there are 49 thousands enterprises in Dong Nai, however most of them are technology dependent enterprises. The number of science and technology based enterprises is few and far between. The Provincial Department of Science and Technology’s aim is to advise, provide guidance and approve two science and technology enterprises in this year.​

Receiving support policies

In July 2016, Truong Thanh Khoan LLC (Phu Son commune, Tan Phu district) was certified as a science and technology enterprise by the Provincial Department of Science and Technology.

Products which are the results of the enterprise's research include: biological products stimulating agarwood to create incense, artificial agarwood (ornamental agarwood pieces); other products made from agarwood (essential oils, distilled oils, balms).

Mr Truong Thanh Khoan, company's director, said that in order to start a science and technology enterprise, he had begun producing products from agarwood since 2011. In the following years, he competed in various tech-related competitions and achieved many successes, from provincial to national level.

He received a patent for the stimulating agarwood to create incense procedure by Provincial Office of Intellectual Property, another one for industrial design in product label…

As for legal procedures, Mr. Khoan received generous help from the province's Department of Science and Technology, Department of Industry and Trade, Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Forest Protection Department, Agriculture and Industry Extension centers at district and commune levels.

Also in 2016, Mr. Truong Thanh Khoan was awarded The 3^rd Class Labor Order by the Prime Minister of Socialist Republic of Vietnam, for his outstanding performance in creating incense from agarwood, which brings in a large amount of revenue, in turn contributing to the cause of shaping up and protect our nation.

After being certified as a science and technology enterprise, Truong Thanh Khoan LLC saw success after success. The distilled water made from agarwood regularly sold out, not only in domestic market but also in South Korea. The annual revenue was around 2 billion VNĐ. In 2021, the company's agarwood essential oil was certified as a 4-star OCOP product.

“Currently, our company is planting 1,2 hectares of agarwood, and is having 12 on-site workers. During times when orders are too many, we purchase additional materials from local farmers and from farmers in Duc Linh district, Binh Thuan province. We also have finished the required papers, and are waiting for our business partner to finish up the products' bar codes, then we will be exporting our products to the US. " – Mr. Truong Thanh Khoan said.

Meanwhile, the Technology Development Joint Stocks Company, DONATECHNO, (Xuan Binh ward, Long Khánh city) owns 3 products that are the result of researching new technologies. These are plant breeds called DONA for both durian and rambutan trees, and a method using a pesticide called Agri-Fos 400 (Photphoruos Acid) on durians, rice fields, rubber trees, black pepper plants, and dragon fruits.

The Ho Giap Viet LLC (Xuan Dong commune, Cam My district) owns 2 products that are the company's innovations: a seed planting and fertilizing machine, and a solar water heater.

​Nhiet Mat Troi Technology Joint Stocks Company (Ho Nai ward, Bien Hoa city) produces 2 items which are solar panels and solar dryer.

Similar to Truong Thanh Khoan LLC, these 3 companies also received legal guidances from various departments. Thanks to that, the businesses are going without a hitch.

Benefits for science and technology enterprises

Pursuant to Decision no. 13/2019 degreed by the Government about science and technology enterprises, they are eligible for various attractive benefits.

These enterprises are tax exempted, or pay lower profit tax, exempted from taxable income when conducting research operations, and are not required to pay registration fees when they register for land uses rights or home ownerships.

Moreover, these enterprises are allowed to received preferential policies on investment credits from Vietnam Development Bank, National Foundation for Science and Technology, and other foundations according to laws in order to invest in production and business.

Not to mention, they are prioritized when utilizing equipment for researching purposes, receive additional counseling, and training from government-owned technology business incubation facilities.

Science and Technology enterprises also pay lower rents when they rent land, infrastructure, and sometimes are exempted from these rents… as a preferential treatment from managing committees that govern industrial zones, export processing zones, economic zones, and high-tech parks, and from various local People's Committees…   ​
