On the morning of July 9th, the provincial Labor Federation held the 4th meeting of its Executive Board for a pre-summation of its operations in the first half of 2009 and took direction in the second half. Mr. Huynh Tan Kiet – President of the provincial Labor Federation chaired the meeting.

The world economic crisis late 2008 has exerted a considerable impact on the province’s production, business and investment activities over the first six months of 2009. A lot of businesses had to cut their production because of no orders. A number of businesses suffered a loss and had to close down. Some foreign-invested businesses’ owners absconded, which has affected workers’ employment situation, income and life badly. To face this situation, levels of trade unions in the province have collaborated actively with local authorities and employers so that they could grasp the situation quickly and solve the issues related to workers’ rights and benefits timely. 62 new grassroots trade unions have been established and 22,000 people have been admitted to the Youth Union, making the total number of grassroots trade unions amount to 2,215 ones, which have more than 352,000 members. The rate at which Youth Union members gather together is 84.05%. In addition, levels of trade unions have collaborated with companies in busing workers to their hometowns for Tet holidays and in caring for their spiritual and material life and awarded 39 houses of compassion worth VND375 million to their members ... In the coming time – to overcome existing problems, building a harmonious relationship, maintain a stability at businesses and attract a large number of workers to trade unions – the provincial Labor Federation has put forward many solutions such as cooperating with concerned agencies in assisting businesses who are facing difficulties and helping to stabilize their production, establishing a pay and bonus structure, setting up labor mediation boards, disseminating the legal policies on social and unemployment insurance to workers, dealing with labor disputes through negotiation and dialogue between employers and trade unions and protecting workers’ legal rights and benefits.
