Summing up the results of organizing graduation exams in 2007

In the past two high school graduation exams, the education sector has received positive directions from the People’s Committee of the province as well as enthusiastic help from People’s Committees of localities. As a result, these graduation exams had taken place in a safe and lawful manner, and reflected the real result of teaching and learning activities in high schools. In 2007, among 23,792 high school examinees, 19,925 ones passed their graduation exams, accounting for 83.7%. In continuation high schools, 1,582 among 4,521 passed their graduation exams, making up 35%.

According to the evaluation of the Education and Training Department, the task of guiding policies and directing documents of the exams has been correctly and timely implemented. Leaders at all levels have given much attention and created good conditions for the Board of Examiners to fulfill its duty. Besides, the considerable and rational implementation by teaching staff and offices in education sector has partly contributed to the successful achievement of the exams’ targets. However, in the 2^nd graduation exams, some school leaders and boards of examiners have not carefully studied directive documents and exam regulations on the candidates having reserved marks, which led to difficulties in dealing with exam results by the board of examiners. The number of examinees violating the exam regulations in writing subjects has remained high (186 out of 28,402 registered candidates violating exam regulations), especially in History. Particularly, some boards of examiners did not have professional skills, so when collecting exam papers, they did not know how to arrange number of candidates in the low-to-high order and to number exam papers collected in order of candidates’ numbers. Many examiners, after finishing matching the detachable head numbers with candidates’ exam papers in the 2^nd graduation examination,  came back home early without attending the meeting on summing up the scoring work. The most special thing was that the rate of candidates passing the exam in all multiple-choice papers has been very low, even lower than in writing papers that candidates had to retake.

Addressing at the meeting, Vice Chairperson of the Provincial People’s Committee Huynh Thi Nga highly appreciated the results of two graduation exams. She also called the education sector’s attention to some matters so that it could perform much more effectively in following school years. Firstly, the education sector should well carry out the “four no’s” campaign directed by the Education and Training Ministry. It is necessary to shorten the gap between private schools and public schools. The education sector must also have specific solutions on enhancing the graduation rate, improving the background knowledge for high school students since they are in secondary schools

At the meeting, 7 units and 1 organization received certificates of merit conferred by the provincial People’s Committee, and 29 individuals of the board of examiners were awarded the same certificates conferred by Education and Training Department.
