Granting the certificate of goods trademark to Tan Trieu pomelo- Bien Hoa product

Mr. Dinh Quoc Thai - Vice - President of the provincial People’s Committee granted the certificate of goods trademark to Tan Trieu pomelo

Steered by the Provincial People’s Committee about the development of specialty grapefruit plantation in the area of Vinh Cuu, Dongnai Department of Science and Technology co-ordinated with other departments and branches to study the impacts of biotechnology and technical science in order to help Vinh Cuu District keep the seed of cross-bred pomelo with guava and other specialty pomelos of Tan Trieu region; trained and instructed people how to grow and take care of pomelos so as to step by step develop the seed of cross-bred pomelo with guava and other good pomelos in the area of Tan Binh commune and adjacent regions. In 2004, the Department of Science and Technology combined with Vinh Cuu District to support the district Society of Horticulturists, among which there were the place-names of Tan Trieu - Bien Hoa, in registering collective trademarks for pomelo products. Up till now, the registration for collective trademark protection has been completed and the Bureau of Intelligence Proprietary granted the Certificate of goods trademark.

Currently, the area of pomelo plantation in Vinh Cuu is about 700 ha gathering in the communes of Tan Binh, Binh Loi, Binh Hoa, Thien Tan, Tan An, and Tri An. To 2010, the area of pomelo plantation in Vinh Cuu is planned to be over 1,000 ha. This will be a good condition and opportunity for the products of Tan Trieu pomelo to stand firm and develop in the market, heading for exports. Mr. Nguyen Phan Bien- Chairman of Vinh Cuu Society of Horticulturists said: “At present, the pomelo wine product is known to many people. We anticipate to focus on developing groups of post-pomelo products such as pharmaceutical products made from pomelo peels, pips and its sections and cosmetics made from pomelo flowers”.

Attending and stating to steer at the Ceremony, Mr. Dinh Quoc Thai- Vice – President of the provincial People’s Committee was happy because Tan Trieu pomelo products were granted the certificate of goods trademark, and at the same time pointed out: “Vinh Cuu District farmers, none better than them, need to be well aware of their responsibilities and duties in protecting and developing invisible assets that are the collective trademark of Tan Trieu pomelo- Bien Hoa with practical actions in farming in oder to incessantly increase the pomelo quality, ensuring the usage of the labels on pomelos when taken into the market.”
