He called on all relevant units, including officials, engineers, workers, and laborers, to recognize that 2024 is the year to accelerate this project.

Efforts to shorten the progress's time
Recently, the Government Office issued a statement summarizing the conclusions of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's inspection and work regarding the implementation of key projects. Regarding the first phase of the Long Thanh Airport project, the Prime Minister emphasized the need for all relevant units (contractors, consultants, supervisors, etc.) as well as individuals involved, including officials, engineers, workers, and laborers, to be aware of the fact that 2024 is the year to accelerate, and 2025 is the year to achieve a breakthrough, with the first half of 2026 focusing on completion and handover for operation.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized that this is a nationally significant project, which was approved by the National Assembly for investment in 2017. The Prime Minister approved the investment project in 2020, but the initial phase of the implementation process was slow. Thanks to the resolute guidance of the Government and Prime Minister, as well as the active involvement, support, and attention from central to local levels, there have been positive changes. After two years, a significant amount of work has been carried out, particularly the selection of international contractors for the most important package of the project, the passenger terminal.
In the coming time, ministries and sectors will urgently implement the component projects, ensuring their completion in a coordinated manner with the main items of the project for operation. Efforts will be made to shorten the timeline, prioritize expedited construction, and save construction time.
The investors are urgently reassessing the overall progress, detailed progress, and new completion milestones of the project components. This will serve as the basis for implementation, inspection, and monitoring. Relevant units must regularly inspect and strengthen supervision to ensure the quality of the construction in accordance with regulations. The project must bear architectural significance, with appropriate landscaping and greenery to enhance its beauty. The conclusion statement clearly states that "the first half of 2026 must focus on completion and handover for operation."
Key packages are meeting the timeline
Within the entire Long Thanh Airport Phase 1 construction project, Component 3 - the construction of essential facilities within the airport - is the most important component. In this component, the construction of the passenger terminal of Long Thanh Airport Phase 1 has the largest and most crucial investment capital. It also plays a role as the progress driver for the entire project.
According to the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV), the construction and installation package for the passenger terminal of Long Thanh Airport Phase 1 officially commenced at the end of August 2023. Immediately after the groundbreaking ceremony, the consortium of construction contractors promptly mobilized over 2,000 laborers and more than 800 pieces of equipment to carry out construction activities for the project. During the Lunar New Year holiday of Giap Thin, the consortium continued to deploy nearly 400 personnel to work on-site and organized construction activities throughout the holiday. "So far, the entire underground portion has been completed, bringing the construction to a height of 0.00," said the ACV representative.
According to the ACV, regarding the progress of the next phases of the passenger terminal construction, the concrete and steel structure work is expected to be completed by the end of 2024. Specifically, the roof of the terminal is expected to be completed by August-September 2024 to begin the installation of the steel structure.
Parallel to the construction progress, all procurement and equipment ordering activities have been implemented through contracts with suppliers and manufacturers to meet the set deadlines.
According to the ACV, the construction and installation package for the passenger terminal aims to complete the entire construction phase before December 2025. The installation of the vertical structure should be completed by March 2026, alongside the completion of testing and installation of operating equipment starting from early 2026.
As for package 4.6 - the construction and installation of the runway, taxiway, apron (cargo terminal, hangar, isolation area), and other facilities - the ACV stated that the construction of the runway, taxiway, and apron is expected to be completed before June 2025.
