According to local farmers, live hog prices began to fluctuate from the end of May, increasing steadily and now reaching a new high price. This price surge is quite unusual compared to market norms. Typically, during the summer, live hog prices are stable and low due to the less dynamic market demand compared to other times of the year. However, this year, prices have continuously climbed despite the low consumption season.

The main reason for the high live hog prices is a significant reduction in supply. Previously, live hog prices were low, sometimes even below production costs. Meanwhile, feed prices remained high, and disease risks were substantial, leading farmers to scale back their investments.​
