In 2024, all socio-economic development targets of the agricultural sector were met and exceeded. Specifically, 2 out of 5 targets surpassed expectations. The production value of agriculture, forestry, and fisheries is estimated at 50.55 trillion VND, an increase of 3.53% compared to the same period, exceeding the assigned target by 0.03%. Dong Nai remains the leading province in production value in the Southeast region, surpassing the national growth rate.

Agricultural services have seen continuous development with a variety of activities. The province has nearly 2,100 facilities producing and trading agricultural materials, annually supplying approximately 236 million seedlings, 110 million livestock and aquaculture breeds, 434 thousand tons of fertilizers and pesticides; and nearly 4.2 million tons of animal and aquaculture feed. These outputs meet local demands while also catering to neighboring provinces and export markets. Agricultural support services have advanced with 61 bank branches, 34 people's credit funds, 12 organizations certifying agricultural product quality standards, and 62 agricultural service cooperatives offering key services such as input material supply and agricultural product consumption for members.

Throughout the year, five additional communes achieved advanced rural standards, and seven communes reached model rural standards, exceeding the targets by two advanced rural communes and four model rural communes compared to the assigned plan. The sector's structure continues to shift toward in-depth growth, with crop and livestock restructuring focused on efficiency, sustainability, and market signals. Consequently, the efficiency of agricultural land use has increased, reaching 173 million VND per hectare, up by 12.8 million VND per hectare compared to 2023.

Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Mr. Duong Minh Dung, highly commended the results achieved by the agricultural sector over the past year, which have contributed to stabilizing the livelihoods of over 54.7% of the rural population. He urged the department to collaborate with relevant sectors and localities to review and address issues such as encroachment on forest lands, forestry lands, and protective forests, aiming to stabilize the lives of local residents.

To contribute to fulfilling the province's objectives and achieving “double-digit" growth in 2025, the agricultural sector is urged to promptly coordinate with relevant sectors and localities to accelerate the completion of intra-field traffic and irrigation infrastructure. Efforts should also focus on planning and creating clean land funds to attract and invite investors into agriculture and rural development. The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development needs to review existing shortcomings and limitations, making timely adjustments to any unsuitable aspects; enhance the application of information technology and digital transformation in production; and prioritize digitizing the sector's database. Building a traceability system for agricultural products, applying IT in forest management, forest protection, and wildfire prevention, and investing in monitoring and surveillance equipment for reservoirs are also key tasks.

Vice Chairman Duong Minh Dung further instructed the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to quickly coordinate with the Department of Natural Resources and Environment to finalize plans and proposals for merging and streamlining the organizational structure in accordance with the directives and implementation timeline set by the Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial People's Committee.
