On June 7, Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan came to the 55th Anniversary of Establishment of the Central Traditional Medicine Hospital (from 1957 to 2012) and awared first-class Independence Medal to the hospital; first- class Labor Medal for Professor Hoang Bao Chau – former President of the Institute for Oriental Medicine Studies (now known as the Institute of Central Traditional Medicine) and third- class Labor Medal to Dr.Tran Quoc Binh – Director of the hospital.
Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Xuan highly appreciated the achievements of the collective for the last 55 years. She said: Traditional Medicine has a long and honored history and plays an important role in Vietnam’s medical science. In recent years, traditional medicine has been at its height, which largely contributes to the development of the medical science, one of the factors is the effort of the Central Traditional Medicine Hospital. With its 55 years of establishing and developing history, the hospital has become the best and leading unit of the traditional medical science. ch helps improve quality and meet people’s increasing demands.
Deputy Minister hopes that the Central Traditional Medicine Hospital continues to build and accelerate its modernization; implements the hospital’s comprehensive planning until the year of 2020; strictly conforms to the democratic regulations and communication codes among officers as well as between officers and patients; focuses on training its officers, standardizes daily health check and treatment, takes more chances to apply new technologies and science to improve its operation step by step.
The Central Traditional Medicine Hospital used to be Institute for Oriental Medicine Studies, which was established on June 7th, 1957 with the missions of examining, giving first aid, treating and practicing alternative medicine for patients at the highest line with traditional medicine, combining traditional and modern medicine; studying science; training officers; preventing diseases; preparing and producing medicine…
For the past 55 years, with the effort of all officers, the hospital has obtained remarkable achievements. As the last line of traditional medicine treatment, the hospital has always surpassed targets set by Ministry of Health with an increase in total number of patients enjoying the services of health check, treatment and subclinical technologies from 20 to 50 percent per year; whilst the rate of recovery is over 80 percent.
In recent years, the hospital has examined and treated more than 100,000 patients, over 6,000 inpatients and performed 1,600 cases of surgery per year; currently the hospital is implementing a national-class project, a national-class study and Ministry-class subjects. Besides, the hospital has developed clinic departments: Internal Medicine, Surgery, Adult and Elderly, Acupuncture, Dermatology… and subclinic departments: Testing, Imaging Diagnosis – Functional Probing, Department of Hospital Infection Control,…; as well as successfully applied higher technologies in diagnosis and treatment, such as: techniques of computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, laser use in treatment, laparoscopic surgery and hemorrhoids surgery… successfully expanding and implementing project 1816, the hospital sent over 100 officers to support provincial traditional medicine hospitals, especially to the mountainous provinces near Northern boundary (Ha Giang, Lai Chau, Son La, Yen Bai…) to provide education to 300 people for 4,000 hours; examine more than 15,000 patients, perform minor surgery and surgery for more than 341 people, hemorrhoids surgery for 186 people and make 174 surgical artifices at provincial traditional medicine hospitals… In the future, the hospital will continue to focus on combining traditional and modern medicine in examination and treatment; closely co-operate with regional countries which has advanced traditional medicine; establishing hospitals specialized in training after university.
