Dong Nai – Champasak: Nurturing special friendship in new era

On the occasion of the traditional Bun Pi May New Year of the Lao ethnic groups, adelegation from Dong Nai province led by Le Truong Son, Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, paid aworking visit to Champasak Province (Laos) to extend New Year greetings.

Speaking at the working session, Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Truong Son emphasized that although Dong Nai and Champasak do not share a border, the two provinces have, over the years, continuously nurtured and strengthened cooperative ties across multiple fields. Regular exchanges and contact mechanisms have been established, contributing to the enhancement of good neighborliness, traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation between the two nations, in line with the motto of “great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive
cooperation” set by the two Parties and States.

The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee also provided a general overview of the socio-economic situation of Dong Nai province and extended New Year greetings to the Party Committee, authorities, and people of Champasak province on the occasion of the
traditional Bun Pi May New Year of the Lao ethnic groups.
On the occasion of the New Year of the friendly country, leaders of Dong Nai province presented meaningful gifts to the government of Champasak province. These warm gestures demonstrate the deep concern and the spirit of mutual assistance between the two nations.
A key highlight of the visit was the re-signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the 2026–2030 period. The agreement is a follow-up to previous cooperation frameworks between Champasak and Dong Nai, as well as the former Binh Phuoc Province, creating a solid legal foundation for a new phase of development.

In the coming period, both provinces will focus on enhancing cooperation in key areas such as economy, trade, green agriculture, healthcare and especially education.
Under the agreement, Dong Nai will continue to provide 10 full scholarships annually for college and university-level training to students selected by Champasak provincial authorities and officially appointed for study. Dong Nai will also support Champasak in healthcare services, including medical check-ups for its retired senior officials.
At the same time, both sides will actively promote comprehensive cooperation and people-to- people exchanges, in which the Vietnam - Laos Friendship Association of Dong Nai province, with over 1,700 members, will continue to be an "extended arm" in strengthening people-to- people exchanges and mutual understanding.
