During this visit, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh also conducted on-site inspections, addressed challenges, and urged the acceleration of progress for the Long Thanh Airport project. This marks the sixth visit by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to the Long Thanh airport construction site in the past three years.

Attending the meeting were Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha and leaders from relevant ministries and sectors. From Dong Nai, the delegation was welcomed by Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Vu Hong Van; Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Vo Tan Duc, along with leaders from the Provincial People's Council, the Provincial People's Committee, and relevant departments and localities.

The Long Thanh Airport project consists of four component projects: Component Project 1 (offices for state agencies), Component Project 2 (air traffic management facilities), Component Project 3 (essential infrastructure), and Component Project 4 (ground service facilities).

According to the Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee, nearly 5,500 households have been settled and arranged for resettlement related to the Long Thanh Airport project. To date, Dong Nai has completed additional items for Component Project 1. For the land clearance of two connecting roads, the province has handed over the entire area of over 66.4 hectares for Route 1 (100% completion). For Route 2, nearly 59.7 hectares have been handed over, also achieving a 100% completion rate.

During the meeting with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, Chairman Vo Tan Duc proposed that the government consider implementing a road connection between Tan Son Nhat Airport and Long Thanh Airport, as well as expanding the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway. Currently, Dong Nai is developing two roads connecting to Long Thanh Airport and continues to coordinate with Ho Chi Minh City and the neighboring provinces of Ba Ria - Vung Tau and Binh Duong to expedite the implementation of expressway and Belt Road 4 projects to connect traffic with Long Thanh Airport.

Pham Minh Chinh emphasized that the goal remains unchanged from previous directives: to essentially complete Long Thanh Airport by the end of 2025. Thus, he requested that ministries, localities, and relevant units, as well as the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV), urgently implement his directives from the meeting on January 25, while reviewing and reconstructing the progress timeline to monitor the investment and construction process, promptly addressing any issues that arise within their authority and reporting urgent matters that exceed their authority.

Additionally, relevant agencies should consider reasonable arrangements for construction sites to allow for simultaneous execution of various project components, avoiding overlaps that could hinder progress on the expansive project site of nearly 5,000 hectares. Furthermore, ministries and localities need to explore and develop transportation connection routes, including researching a metro line from Tan Son Nhat Airport to Long Thanh Airport.

Chairman Vo Tan Duc Voices His Thoughts During the Meeting with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh

Regarding materials, the Prime Minister requested that in the coming week, Dong Nai Province convene a meeting with relevant ministries, investors, and contractors to promptly resolve all issues related to the supply of materials. This should be done with the approach of providing materials directly to contractors, bypassing intermediaries. Additionally, the Prime Minister emphasized the need to revoke licenses for any mining sites whose operations have expired or are not compliant with regulations, addressing any exploitation of the situation for hoarding, profiteering, or price inflation, and to impose strict penalties as a deterrent. The Ministry of Public Security must be involved in this effort.

In response to this issue, Chairman Vo Tan Duc stated that, following the Prime Minister's directives, the provincial government will coordinate with the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) and related units to identify solutions and measures to ensure a sufficient supply of essential materials such as construction soil and rock for major projects, including Long Thanh Airport.

The Prime Minister also tasked Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha with convening monthly meetings with all stakeholders to monitor, direct, and resolve emerging issues. He stressed the importance of clearly defining roles, responsibilities, timelines, and expected deliverables, along with regular inspections, timely recognition, and disciplinary actions as per Party and State regulations.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized that the Long Thanh International Airport project is a national priority and the largest airport project in the country, holding significant importance, particularly as Tan Son Nhat Airport is currently overloaded with thousands of flights each day. The completion of Long Thanh Airport will also serve to commemorate the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party and other major celebrations in 2025.
