​(News Portal – Dong Nai) - At noon on February 5, Nhon Trach 3 Power Plant in Nhon Trach District officially synchronized with and supplied electricity to the national grid for the first time.

Leaders of the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group, PetroVietnam Power Corporation - JSC, and the power project management team celebrating the moment the project connected to the national grid. 

Nhon Trach 3 Power Plant, along with Nhon Trach 4 Power Plant, are the first power plants in Vietnam to utilize liquefied natural gas (LNG). Together, they have a total capacity of 1,500–1,600 MW and a total investment of $1.4 billion.

The project was approved for investment by the Prime Minister, with the basic design appraised by the Ministry of Industry and Trade. PetroVietnam Power Corporation (PV Power) serves as the project's investor. To date, the project has achieved nearly 96% completion, with many components finalized and officially operational as of today.

Once fully operational, these projects will contribute approximately 9 billion kWh of electricity annually to the national grid, thereby ensuring energy security, advancing the Net Zero target, and promoting the development of gas-fired power projects in Vietnam in alignment with Power Development Plan VIII.​

For Dong Nai Province, the operation of the project will not only enhance the province's energy security (as Dong Nai is the fourth-largest electricity consumer in the country) but also generate annual revenues of several thousand billion dong for the local budget. Additionally, it will create jobs for local residents and stimulate the growth of services related to the plant's operations in the surrounding areas.
