(News Portal – Dong Nai) - On January 9, Member of the Party Central Committee and Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Mr. Nguyen Hong Linh, presided over a meeting with representatives of CT Strategies (CTS) regarding the promotion and development of a Free Trade Zone (FTZ) connecting Long Thanh International Airport and Phuoc An Port. At the meeting, a representative from CT Strategies Vietnam LLC (CTS Vietnam) reported that in December 2024, the Chairman of the Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee submitted a proposal to the Prime Minister to establish an FTZ within the Long Thanh Airport urban area and surrounding regions. The goal is to maximize the potential and advantages of Long Thanh Airport, a key national project.

From the perspective of a consultancy specializing in FTZ projects globally, CTS Vietnam assessed this as a strategic direction aligned with global trends and the successful models of FTZs worldwide. The establishment of an FTZ connected to Long Thanh Airport is anticipated to bring numerous benefits, such as attracting strategic investment, strengthening global supply chain linkages, and driving local economic growth.

When the FTZ at Long Thanh Airport is connected to Phuoc An Port, additional significant advantages will be realized, including multimodal connectivity, enhanced cargo transportation capacity, reduced logistics costs, and the development of a key ASEAN logistics hub. This connection would also integrate the advantages of the province's industrial ecosystem.

As such, CTS Vietnam believes Dong Nai possesses all the necessary conditions to develop an FTZ with integrated connections between Long Thanh Airport, Phuoc An Port, and its industrial ecosystem. This would contribute to transforming Dong Nai into a leading modern hub for logistics, manufacturing, and commerce in the region. CTS Vietnam expressed its desire to collaborate with the province on a feasibility study for developing the FTZ locally.

At the meeting, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Nguyen Hong Linh instructed the Office of the Provincial Party Committee and the Office of the Provincial People's Committee to draft a document from the Provincial Party Committee's Standing Committee to the Government's Party Affairs Committee, seeking approval for Dong Nai to conduct research and propose the establishment of the FTZ connecting Long Thanh Airport and Phuoc An Port. He also called for the formation of a task force to develop a proposal for the FTZ, involving provincial leaders, relevant departments, consulting units, and experts, with the aim of reporting to the Provincial Party Committee's Standing Committee by early Q2 2025. "When drafting the proposal, include only the essential data. Once the proposal is approved, subsequent steps will be implemented," Secretary Nguyen Hong Linh emphasized.
