The above project was decided by the Prime Minister on investment policy in August 2022; the investor is the Ministry of Transport; funded by the World Bank and the Australian Government. The project's objective is to improve the infrastructure system, reduce congestion, accidents, and reduce the cost of transporting goods and water transport through the renovation and upgrading of the East-West transport corridor, which is connected to the East-West transport corridor, connecting the Mekong Delta region and renovating the North-South transport corridor connecting the Southeast region with the Cai Mep-Thi Vai port cluster. The project is implemented in Dong Nai, Vinh Long, Ben Tre, Tien Giang and Long An provinces. Implementation period is from 2023-2027; total investment capital is more than 3.9 thousand billion. In Dong Nai province, the project "Development of waterways and logistics corridors in the South" needs to convert 3.15 hectares including 2.88 hectares in protection forest and another 0.27 hectares in Nhon Trach district. However, this project has not been updated in the list of forestry planning and local land use planning so far.
Vice Chairwoman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thi Hoang said that this was an important project that the province would support for timely implementation. Specifically, assigning the responsibility to the People's Committee of Nhon Trach district to be responsible for researching and proposing to update the above project into the adjustment of the district's local planning in order to submit it to the Provincial People's Council in 2023. Dong Nai People's Committee would cooperate with the Ministry of Transport to integrate this project into the provincial planning in 2023.
