First Half of 2011: Socio-Economy Stays Pretty High Growth

June 21, Dong Nai People’s Committee held a meeting to assess the implementation of tasks in the first half of 2011 and to start the implementation of tasks in the second half of 2011.

In the first half of 2011, in spite of unpredictable changes in the prices of essential commodities, and of a big increase in loan interest rates, Dong Nai’s socio-economic growth stayed pretty high due to the government’s timely-put-forward solutions and People’s Committee’s directions and leadership.

- GDP is estimated at VND18,860 billion (or US$906.89 million), up 13.2 percent over the same period.

- Industry-Construction hits VND12,593 billion (or US$605.54 million), up 14 percent over the same period.

- Services hits VND4,727.5 billion (or US$227.32 million), up 14.6 percent over the same period.

- Agriculture-Forestry-Aquaculture hits VND1,539.3 billion (or US$71.01 million), up 3.6 percent over the same period.

- Budget revenue accounts for 51 percent according to plans. New domestic business start-ups and businesses with capital increase represent over 56 percent according to plans.

- Total retail in the first half of 2011 hits VND32,595 billion (US$1.56 billion), up 24.8 percent over the same period.

- Export is estimated at US$4,404.9, up 31.4 percent over the same period.

- Import is estimated at US$5,314.9 million, up 25.5 percent over the same period.

- Foreign investment capital hits US$322, as much as 64.8 percent over the same period.

- Yearly cultivation area hits 58,275 hectares, accounting for 32.4 percent according to plans.

- Winter-spring rice area hits 38,048 hectares, up 2.8 percent over the same period; food crops 24,034 hectares, accounting for 98.9 percent according to plans; root and cereal crops 2,950 hectares, up 41.6 percent over the same period; food crops 6,723 hectares, up 7.1 percent over the same period; summer-autumn rice 20,227 hectares, as much as 78.3 percent over the same period.

- Particularly, food crops 12,901 hectares, as much as 67.9 percent over the same period; root and cereal crops 1,396 hectares, up 3 percent over the same period; food crops 2,839 hectares, up 88.3 percent over the same period.

- There is no occurrence of diseases on domestic animals.

- Culture, sports, tourism, education-training and health sectors continue to be strengthened and promoted.

- Employment has been provided for 51,302 job seekers, up 1 percent over the same period.

- Political security has been stabilized and maintained.

With the results achieved in the first half of 2011, below are the tasks in the second half of 2011:

- Attempt to reach VND22,226 billion (or US$1.06 billion) for GDP in the rest of 2011 to stay at the minimum GDP growth in 2011 between 13 and 13.5 percent compared to 2010.

- Industry rises by 17 to 18 percent compared to 2010 and Agriculture-Forestry-Aquaculture rises by 3.7 to 4 percent in 2010.

- The added value for Services rises by 14.4 to 15.1 percent compared to 2010 and total exports rise 15 to 17 percent compared to 2010.
