Short of Fresh Flowers on Vietnam Teacher’s Day

Prices of fresh flowers dramatically increase by 40% to 100% over other days but purchases also go up every hour on Vietnam Teacher’s Day

    “In order to supply the market on Vietnam Teacher’s Day, we have imported some 10 thousand flower branches, including 5,000 branches of roses, and 3,000 of orchid,” said Ms. Nguyen Thanh Tam, owner of Bien Hoa Flower Shop. According to her, the prices approximately have a 40%-50% increase before the holiday. They must double on Nov. 20 and the surrounding days. The highest prices are charged to roses, flowers of orchid and lilies. At present, each rose is priced at VDN7,000 to VND10,000,  VDN6,000 to VND7,000 for gerbera. Others’ prices range from VND20,000 to VND30,000.

Lack of fresh flower supply on the holiday

    Mr. Thai Bao, a shopkeeper in Boys Flower Shop, the shop has added more than 10 thousand roses of all kinds. Flowers for Teacher’s Day had sold well since Nov. 17. “Nov. 20 holiday is different from others, flowers are bought quite early. The reason is that some teachers only have several classes per week, so students want to give flowers to them at class, before the holiday.”

    According to the shop owners, majority of students choose roses and gerberas because of their reasonable prices. Working and high-income people tend to buy lilies or orchid flowers. In spite of higher price compared to last years, amounts of flowers sold do not decline.
