On July 3 morning, Ba Ria-Vung Tau province and Vietnam Navy Service celebrated 20th year of foundation of economy-science-service cluster (DK1) of Southern Vietnam Sea (July 5, 1989- July 5, 2007) and received the second grade medal of national defense

Addressing the ceremony,
Lieutenant-general Tran Thanh Huyen, Vice Admiral and secretary of party
committee of the Navy Service emphasized 5 key tasks that DK1 officials would
determine on doing in the coming time, including: Foster the propaganda; Protect
sea and island sovereignty; Highly qualify training; Keep struggling readiness;
Protect and rescue fishers from danger; Promote the self-reliant rigorous spirit
against difficulties; Continue to establish and strengthen the party
organizations in each force.

In the past 20 years, apart from
its responsibilities for protection, research, storm forecast, DK1 battalion
rescued tens of fishers’ ships in danger, did the first aid and saved lives of
more than 500 fishers; opportunely prevented foreign ships from illegally
entering the southern sea regions, and so forth.
