Summer 2011 Voluntary Youth Campaign came to a close but its echo has existed in the hearts of the residents and land which voluntary youth set foot on during a meaningful summer.

“Joining the voluntary youth campaign, we lived to love and give. We could apply our knowledge at schools to reality and to serving people’s lives. This is a great opportunity for us to learn more valuable experience in life”, said most voluntary youth in the summer campaign.

The campaign started on June 1 and ended on August 31. The campaign was called “Voluntary youth for social security”. It attracted more than 1,000 voluntary applications from youth union members in colleges and universities in the province.

Right after the ceremony to launch the campaign, youth union members participated in such activities as free-of-charge health check-ups and medicine delivery for nearly 300 needy people, planting 1,000 trees in Cam My district.

The Standing Committee in districts, towns, youth unions, universities, colleges, and vocational training schools designed plans and celebrated a ceremony to launch the campaign for the peak month of young volunteers.

Disseminating information on how to prevent epidemics among people

In addition to 282 young volunteers coming to the province’s nine difficult communes, 171 voluntary youth teams at communal level and 11 voluntary youth teams at district level with more than 3,000 youth union members, and 10,000 lots of youth union members participated in voluntary activities.

Besides, 44 students of Lac Hong University joined in voluntary youth campaign in Kon Tum and Quang Tri provinces.

*Particular actions mean a lot

In the youth’s assault and enthusiastic spirit towards the campaign, in addition to educating children and teenagers and people in Dong Nai about the Party and the government’s traditions, policies, and laws, voluntary youth forces cooperated with committees and departments in paying visits to and offering 1,500 gifts to government policy families, Vietnam heroic mothers, needy families, handing over VND7 million to the youth unions in Vinh Linh, Quang Tri, joining hands in helping local government policy families with house renovations, taking care of lonely old people, disseminating information on traffic safety rules, collaborating with traffic police in handling traffic safety violations, and assisting people in writing more than 1,000 applications for land use right certificates.

Voluntary youth donate blood

To perform the “Act for the environment” program, voluntary youth teams cleaned up the environment, collecting 187 tons of waste, having 174.1 kilometers of sewers and inter-field ditches dredged, planting 1,500 trees, disseminating and transferring scientific technologies and advancement to people, and getting people to know how to prevent diseases.

When summer comes, students are eager to take university entrance exams. Children in poor villages wish to go to school, to acquire knowledge, and to have a funny and useful summer.

Voluntary youth have made great contributions to meeting parts of students’ wishes by giving traffic guidance, recommending low-rent accommodation, showing them how to finish university entrance exam procedures, calling for a donation of 4,500 gifts, 225 scholarships, 32,000 notebooks, pens, and learning materials, and 34 bicycles for needy children far-flung areas worth more than VND450 million, holding activities for children, opening 815 summer classes for 4,750 children, and offering English, computer, and drawing classes for children.

Deputy Secretary of the Youth Union Bui Thi Bich Thuy said voluntary youth were enthusiastic to join in the summer campaign and did not care about difficulties and actively participated in local summer activities.
